Hi,

I'm experiencing slow boot time. I think Kaspersky Internet Security 2013 is causing it. (There was no slowdown before installing it)

Even though it's fast to get to the login screen, it becomes really slow from logging in to be able to open my programs.

I can see the desktop but can't click anything. It takes minutes for it to fully load everything.

I know Kaspersky is heavy on system resources but this machine meets them. I think there's a problem related to it that's slowing down my PC.

Here are the specs, let me know if you need more details.

Computer: HP 6730b notebook
Processor: 2,53 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
GPU: Intel HD Graphics 4500MHD
Memory: 4 GB (non-upgradeable, no more free slots)
OS: Win7 SP1 Ultimate x64

I use CCleaner and Yamicsoft WIndows 7 Manager to do system maintenance.

Check whats set to start up, When windows boots:

Open command prompt and type msconfig.exe

New box should appear.

click on the start up tab, have a browse to see whats starting up, upon windows loading. Try turning off Kaspersky, as a test. then reboot.

Thanks for your reply. I use some system maintenance software I keep an eye on my startup list and I unchecked everything non-essential.
I wanted to grab a screenshot but I couldn't get the window to fullscreen so all lines are visible so I took a screenshot from Sysinternals Autoruns which is a similar software I believe.

I didn't try turning off Kaspersky in msconfig because I tried temporary reverting to a system image I created before installing Kaspersky. My system was the same (same programs, settings, startup items etc), just with different AV)
I now restored to the latest backup (with Kaspersky installed) and it's slow again.

So I think we can confirm that this problem is related to Kaspersky. Maybe there's a problem with Kaspersky itself?

Let me know if you need more details.
Please check the attachment below. Should I disable any items in the list?

I did some maintenance and it's much faster now. (I ran a disk defrag too.)
I watched that Kaspersky launches multiple AVP.exe processes (which I read it's normal):

- An instance of AVP.exe is run by SYSTEM and it starts early. (It's how it should, to provide the best protection.)
- Another instance running under my account (after login). Starts along other programs but it's GUI takes a longer time to load.

I wonder if it's normal for Kaspersky's GUI to take a longer time to load? (way after the other programs)

I disabled many autorun items. Please take a look at the new screenshot. (Note - I don't delete anything, just unchecking them for safekeeping so I can easily revert it if neccessarry. I'll remove them later if it everything is OK. I think it doesn't matter to leave them in the list when unchecked, does it?)

There are multiple items related to the Intel graphics, like "persistence" and igfxtray. What's "persistence"? Can I disable that one or is it required for it to function correctly?

Sorry for a late reply.

You will want to go through that start up list and turn some of them off mate.

You will see a differance in response time. just by un-ticking some of them.

Oh I see. I have included a screenshot of this tab in post #7 it's just divided into 3 pictures as the list was long.

No, it's not an AV. Those processes are all related to Secunia PSI. "Start on boot" is enabled but I think I'll set it to manual.

The only AV I have installed is Kaspersky.
I also have some AV scanners (like Malwarebytes (the free version)), but they don't include a resident AV feature so they don't conflict with Kaspersky, they don't even run at startup just when I open them up to scan my system

If you notice in my non Microsoft Services I have one check mark. Malwarebytes. I have chosen for no automatic updates. I do it manually. You must remember to do it yourself.
