Slow bootup

Over the past year, my computer has really slowed in booting up. I haven't timed it exactly but it takes between 5 and 10 minutes. I'm running Win7 Home Premium (X64) SP1. The processor is 3.3 Ghz. The HD is 1TB less than half full. The RAM is 8 GB. I have Mcafee security, Malwarebytes, ACS and CCleaner. Do you have any suggestions such as a software package that would help or is there anything I can do? I do have a technical background in computers so I'm not afraid to try something

Let's see what starts when you boot your computer.

Download and install CCleaner from the following link:
CCleaner - Standard

During installation, uncheck the option to install the Yahoo toolbar.

First run CCLeaner to remove all accumulated temp files and folders.

Next click on Tools (ICON) and Select the following BUTTONS to create two (2) text files:

* Uninstall > Save to text file (install) – bottom right corner of app window
* Startup > Save to text file (startup)

Locate and open each saved file in the ‘Documents’ FOLDER:

* Copy and paste the contents of each file into your next post (2 files).

Do you pay for McAfee? If not, get rid of it and install something else like Microsoft Security Essentials.
Once you uninstall McAfee, download and run the McAfee Removal Tool to clean up the leftover junk.

As I mentioned in my post, I have CCleaner installed. I am a little confused. Clicking on tools brought up a list of stored apps. If I activate "Uninstall" does that uninstall all my apps? Secondly, there is no "startup" button. My documents folder contains a whole lot of documents. Opening each one is a lengthy process and why should I do this? The last sentence involves pasting the contents into another post? I don't get it. The MacAfee program I have is a purchased one. I do have MSE but don't use it very often.

Locate and open each saved file in the ‘Documents’ FOLDER:

That means each of the two you just saved from the Install and Startup tabs, not every file in Documents.

Get the latest version of CCLeaner (5.07) from the link I provided. Run it to delete all accumulated temp files.

Since I didn't see Ztruker mention it yet - uninstall either MSE or McAfee, you shouldn't have 2 AV.

Set MBAM to Delay Protection at Startup for 15 seconds (Settings - Advanced Settings).

There are a few other programs I would recommend uninstalling but try the Clean Startup GoKay mentioned. If the computer runs better then we know it's things starting a boot that are causing the problem. If no difference then uninstalling programs will not help.

Do you run CCleaner regularly?

I run Ccleaner every couple of days. I tried the clean boot and the screen came up in 2-3 minutes with my wallpaper and icons. I opened the browser and this took another 3 minutes. This is a major improvement.

2-3 minutes is good enough for a loaded HDD. 3 minutes after desktop may be (possibly) improved further.

Did you set MBAM to start protection 15 seconds after startup?
Did you uninstall either McAfee or MSE? (As you have McAfee paid I guess uninstall MSE). These will both start to scan together upon login and slow the PC a lot.

If you can get an SSD, you will see blazing fast boots even with a loaded OS.

I tried to uninstall MSE. However, Control Panel does not list, the search function can't find it and in its folder there are no .exe files, only .dll. How would I configure Malwarebytes to delay start after 15 seconds?

You also have Norton, which does compete with Macafee, your going to have to choose which one to keep

I see you still have free trial versions of some programs, which have expired but are still on your system,
suggest you remove them

Regarding the browser startup time,
MBAM/Iobit/norton/macafee all use safe browser protection plug-ins, you dont need all of them just 1, and if you have added any other ie addblock etc then they are also increasing startup times

I'm not aware of any trial versions that are still loaded. I have been checking the list for programs I no longer need or want. I uninstalled GuardedID and in the process it downloaded Tweakbit which I searched and saw that it was a scam. Is that true? I have erased it. I haven't decided between MacAfee or Norton yet but will soon.
