Hi All,

I have Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit.... when it's staring up I get the normal windows screen with the animated icon.....then it goes into a black screen and I have to wait for my logon screen to load....about 10-15 seconds!

I enter my user name and password and it logs on, again slow about 10-15 seconds (like something is loading) the screen goes black then it's goes to its normal win7 background, then my icons load.....then they all refresh! Any ideas?

I've been through all the Microsoft tech-net forums and found nothing... It seems to be some sort of service loading up with a delayed start? Or I notice my network icon takes a while to load...i.e. the circle is going round over the internet access screen (icon) bottom right hand side of the screen! is this an issue with ip version 6?

Anyway any help...I would be grateful :)

I've tried updating my drivers..and all is ok....I've tried various registry tweaks...nothing.... I've installed and uninstalled my drivers...nothing

I was having similar issues, however my "welcome screen" message was taking 30 seconds before moving
on to my desktop.

I had tweaked my system, turned off Indexing... I think - does that sound right? Turned it back on and all is well.

Please fill out your system specs via User CP, Edit System Spec.

Test your ram to see if a problem has developed.

Download Memtest86+ (you want the 2nd one Download - Pre-Compiled Bootable ISO (.zip)). Unzip it then create a CD from the iso file using your CD burning software. There is a good freeware burner called ImgBurn which will do this easily.

DO NOT burn the .iso file directly to CD. It must be used as input to a program that knows what to do with it, like the one I mentioned above.

Boot the CD and run for at least 3 complete passes unless it shows errors sooner than that.
This could also be a hard drive problem so it would be a good idea to test it with the manufacturers diagnostic.

The icon refresh thing does happen, quite normal depending on the size and quantity.
For me this is very much like a graphics driver problem and\or some hardware flaw Could even be PSU)
What you describe is not in itself wrong, apart from the length of time it takes.

Or a faulty graphics card\chip.

The boot log you provided doesn't help as it has no time stamps so there is no way to tell where the time is being spent.

You did the memory test and the hard drive test and all is well?

I notice you have an odd amount of ram. How is it installed? By that I mean how many ram modules and what are their sizes.

As cyclic mentioned, this could be a graphics card/chip problem. DO you have the latest drivers installed?

What is the make and model number of your computer?

Hi Rich,

Yes I have all the latest drives installed... tested my ram and hard drive and no problems there! I would think it it was a hardware problem I would get some beeps during post boot! My RAM configuration is as follows
Slot 1: 2GB
Slot 2: 2GB
Slot 3: 1GB
Slot 4: 2GB

Cant see this being the problem but I may be wrong.... Windows is seeing the RAM ok and using it fine.... My graphics card seems ok as I play games using it and no crashes or overheating... It may just be Windows buddy...It's always been a buggy OS anyway.... Might go over to Linux or Apple :) Thanks for all your suggestions tho.... more would be welcome as I do like getting to the bottom of a problem.... Oh my PC.... I built it myself so nothing official as in make like (Packard bell) or anything like that :) Just this blank black screen when I log in... and my icons refreshing...the waiting and the overall problem does irritate me

Thanks again

From your board's manual:
Capture.JPG
If any of your 2GB modules are identical, install one in each of the yellow or black slots and leave the others out. AMD has issues running 4 slots populated at best and with a rogue 1GB in there it can't be helpful.

OK, if you have 1 2GB ram stick in each yellow or black slot, perhaps someone will be along to give better help.

Wasn't being funny

Britton,

Wasn't being funny buddy, just posting results of what I had done further to ideas put forward to me on this group! Sorry if I came across the wrong way mate.

I have tested my hardware
Flashed my BIOS
Checked my RAM
Checked my Hard drive
Changed the RAM about ( using only Identical RAM)..... But my problem persists!

I have a feeling that I have some sort of 0 day root kit or other nasty on my system... I have found two within the last two weeks and they seem to be deep in my system.

I had Zone alarm security suite on my system and it didn't notice a thing!

This week I have used two different antimalware scanners...that being superantispyware and ad aware and they both found different bits of computer low life that have the ability to use some sort of in memory dll injection techniques....!! they can inject themselves into legitimate running processes on my system.. I know a little about exploits as I'm just in the process of learning how to use metasploit for an upcoming course I'm taking....and the good ones are hard to detect..... I think I have something in my system ( a root kit?) and I've done all the basics as in scanning for malware in safe mode to checking my netstat command to see if any unusual outgoing connections are present...but most important keeping my system patched.... I have found my mouse cursor moving around sometimes and the slow logon seems like some sort of process is trying to kick in and start up...once my computer is logged in its all running fine!! after about 3-4 mins..... Anyway hope someone has had the same problems

Thanks for all your input

No buddy, I was just saying I had no further ideas to try.
you may be on to something about root kits though. Throw a full Malwarebytes scan at it too if you haven't, try in Safe Mode as well after you update MBAM. I have a link below my sig for the free one.
