Hi, about 2 days ago, I powered on my PC and it said I needed to run start up repair, so I did. After running it said my hard drive had failed, bearing in mind this PC is only 3 months old and I had anti virus protection on there, also I had not downloaded anything on there for around 2 weeks. It had done this a couple of times before but never said my hard drive had failed.

I tried many methods of troubleshooting but still nothing, the only option I had was to reinstall windows 7. I realise now that this was a bad idea. Everything was going fine until after it had restarted to complete the installation. It had frozen just near the end, I was there for 2 hours waiting for it to finish, and I had had enough. I turned the PC off by the power button, now when I start it up, it goes to the windows splash screen and then the windows installation starts again. However, it says something like "Starting windows installation" and then my PC restarts and just keeps doing the same thing on repeat. I have taken the installation disk out and set my hard drive to the first boot device and still no result.

I realise now that I shouldn't of tried installing windows again and should of just sent my PC back to get repaired. My question is, when I send it back will I be able to get my data back from my failed hard drive after doing a clean install of windows that didn't finish?

Sorry if this didn't make sense, I tried my best to explain my problem, I hope somebody can answer my question.

Thanks!

I'm afraid that your data is probably gone. If it made it that far I'm sure its gone. Can you boot into safe mode?

Welcome to the forums by the way...... wish you could have found us earlier......

If it said HD failed, why reinstall Win7?

If your PC is less than a year old you have a hardware warranty, so contact Tech Support to replace the HD.

Once you replace the HD follow these same steps to get a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 which will remain that way as long as you stick with the tools and methods given.

When I try booting into safe mode, it either goes to BSOD saying some hardware has failed, or it goes into the windows installation. It varies..

I'm going ring up the manufacturers later too see what they can do, I have a warranty on it so all should be good.. I hope.
