Software Installation Stops When Trying To Create Start Menu Folder

My computer stops during creation of start menu folders and/or shortcuts. I have to go into explorer and go to start menu (I have ownership) and take ownership of the installation folder, subfolders and shortcuts. Anyone have any ideas as to what is going on that I have to take these unnecessay steps? i get error 1909, could not create shortcut. verify installation folder exists

This happens on any software installs and I have to manually go to Program Data/microsoft/windows/start menu (which I have ownership) and find the install folder and take ownership and then it will continue until "cannot create shortcut" might appear as well. UAC is off, Comodo Internet Security is "safe". Thx for any help anyone might have suggestions.

I have that program installed and really like it. My problem is though is that software installs stop, probably due to admin problems or something of that nature, because the error 1909 stops installations when trying to access Program Data folder. I took ownership of that and still the problem persists. I don't know what else to do so I was hoping someone here could help. Thx for ur reply tho!

It sounds to me that you have a registry problem http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html run this and see if any errors show up then try a registry repair

Well running "scannow" turned my computer into rubbish. I had to reformat and begin again...and when I did, it still has the issue of not allowing programs to create links in start menu. I have googled everything I can think of and the problem must not be common because I am unable to find an answer. Help Please!

Turned my computer into rubbish. What do you mean by this. Your spec say 1024 meg's of ram. Windows 7/64 needs more to work it's best. Please type in your next post exactly the way you typed in scannow into your computer to run it.

Maybe someone else can use this link to help with this or other OS problems. This was the link I went to to fix my .lnk problem, but there are a number of other extensions that might help someone.
