Hello to the Se7en Security Community, ...hope your virus paranoia level is low today with clouds from the west, tomorrow a chance of high paranoia as the mercury rises.
But Honestly, I'm posting to do a quick review of Kasperskys 2011 Internet Security Suite better known as KIS to its owners and insiders as well as a slight comparison to its newest product, Pure.
KIS 2011 is very similar to 2010 with the exception of a different layout in the General User Interface (GUI). Most all features found in 2010 is found in 2011 without any new features added. This might be due to the fact that Kaspersky has come out with a new Internet Suite called "Pure".
Pure has many new features along with all the features found in 2011. The new features in Pure include a file shredder, Disaster recovery, a more advanced PC Security Tune-up, and more importantly a Password Manager. The Password manager is a feature that saves all usernames and passwords to all your web sites in one location called The Password Manager. You only need to remember/use one password to control the Password manager which in turn allows you to use it for all your password websites. Its a nice feature which is not included 2011, thus the reason for one to spend a little more for Pure, ...about $30 US more.
After running a 30 trial of Pure, I believe its worth the extra dough for people that don't already have programs that have the features that Pure provides such as Full Image Backup. If you don't have these key applications than Pure without a doubt is for you.
Well, back to 2011, the main UI is quite boring if you ask me. They did away with the scanner, which was just for looks and served no purpose except to link to the Protection state window. The Protection Window can be found by clicking on any one of the many links KIS provides. Some features were moved around like Vulnerability scanner, it was moved from the Scan Window to the Tools Window. It has improved on its "Sandbox" feature with a new Tab called "Safe Run" which includes the quick links to safe internet browsing or PC Program Safe Run. When using the Safe Run Applications, your desktop basically becomes a full on safe zone. And lets not forget about the virtual keyboard which allows you to enter info on websites without touching a key on your keyboard. Point and click on the keyboard window and key-logging can't be done!
I've been running K-Lab's KIS for many years and every new release is a surprise in the UI's and added features, but this time, Kaspersky decided to keep 2011 a bit primitive so as to attract people to the more costly new product, that is "Pure" imho.
One cool item found with 2011 that I don't believe is in Pure is a Sidebar Gadget. This Gadget is very useful with two programmable buttons (Limited to what K-Lab has provided), that from a drop down can be changed to open most any KIS feature window with one click. It keeps you informed when a scan or update is taking place and of course if there are any problems such as out of date virus definitions, virus, spyware, etc. Also with the Gadget comes two different looks and you can run two instances of it with running the same or different style types.

All in all, As a KIS 2010 user, I find 2011 to be about the same with next to no new features with the exception of the sidebar gadget.
As far as protection, Kaspersky has always done a great job in preventing any malware to even get onto your PC. Goto a phishing webpage and KIS will stop it from loading and with a pop-up to let you know that this website is unsafe. I've always have had good luck with K-Lab Protection and I find it to be one of the best retail PC Protection available.
But don't just take my word, do some searching or goto your favorite PC Products review sites and read what some of the pro's are saying about Kaspersky Products.
For more info on Kaspersky Features and products, please visit any or all of the following websites. From the Pure Webpage, click on the comparison icon link, and it will sum up the differences between the products.
KIS 2011:
Internet Security Software 2010 for Home Computer Security - Kaspersky Lab United States
Pure:

Please note, that at this time, Pure is not officially released in US yet, so make sure if you do some browsing at Kaspersky that at the top you select "Global" from the location drop down.
