Hello Eric,
I can't find your advice on the Seven forum. I clicked on my email link to get here. I was following Roy's posts and about to "repair install", and decided to try the Restore feature. I did a Restore and everything is back to normal. The only concern I have is when I go the the Win. Update. How do I keep the creepy *KB3042058* from trying to install? There is probably going to be about 80 updates waiting for me.
Thanks
Sorry about not able to assist you on your previous issue.
For your info.
Now that you intend to re-install Windows, then do take note on System Restore.
I did have OS running out of control, so i did the System Restore.
Result: Problem solved. Nothing lost.
I did use "repair install", it failed to resolve.
Link to System Restore, where you were unable to find.

Do understand more on this System Restore.
Most, if not all, Before Windows install the Update files, it will create a system restore point.
This is for, if there is issue on computer, then this restore point do play a role, by going back before updates.
Do note that for system restore to work, say, you select the restore point on 29 June,
then those system restore point after 29 Jun will be lost.
Alternately, you can select, restore point on 3 July, and may find the problem still exist.
Then select 29 Jun restore point. This may be better as doing step by step on the restore point.
System Restore is available for all Windows OS, hence using this is better than repair install.
For repair install, it is mainly for geek, professional, to do.
This repair install is quite a problematic if the procedure is not follow closely.
Do note that this is your decision.
This is based on my own knowledge and experience since 30 years ago on Windows system only.
