Something Wrong With Windows 7

Hi Everyone... Just about an hour ago my pinned taskbar and start menu items have dissapeared; when i right click desktop>new> i got nothing displayed =(Empty). Some people told me i might be missing couple files about the taskbar thingy, They asked me to find Appdata. Later i found out that i also can't see hidden files. The thing is that i can right click taskbar and say ]] click pin this to task bar; and than it doesn't do it. Same thing with >show hidden files. And then when i check back again, its on don'T show hidden files.

This thing happened during the process of fixing another issue about Nvidia giving random crashes. I seem to have fixed that. The process of fixing it though(in case you may need to know) took me through a series of restarts, uninstallation and reinstallation of all drivers.

When i open an existing text file and go file>new and then save that file to desktop. It seems to work, but for some reason ex: i cant go right click on explorer new->>::

I was wondering if there is any way of fixing this without like, system recovery since i think it may trigger Nvidia issue back again, which i really don't want.

Extra Info: I read about something on some site. It told me to check the Windows>CurrentVersion>Explorer on Regedit. I think im missing some files. I only seem to have a file named SessionInfo under Explorer Tab.

Help me fix this thing please...

I have a question.
Does this happen in safe mode?
Have you tried running http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html ?
Does the machine seem to stutter, lag?
Does it seem like one minute its fast and the next its slow?

Okay so far i've done the sfc scannow.

C:\Windows\system32>sfc /scannow

Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.

Beginning verification phase of system scan.
Verification 100% complete.

Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

For the last 2 questions:
No it doesn't lag, it works perfectly fine and the performance seems like its stable; although i've been focusing on fixing problems or some time and not really pushing the computer to perform very hard. As for safe mode i will try that and post update soon. Meanwhile Tell me if you got any other solutions

Check for infection by installing Malwarebytes : Free anti-malware download to run a full scan, then check for malware intrusion by installing SUPERAntiSpyware - Downloads to run a full scan - decline trial version for both and turn off at startup in the Preferences since you'll only be using these on demand.

Then in your browsers Tools>Add-ons and Search disable anything except flash player and Google search for the stable search box or IE Omnibox search. Tick the box to not allow changes.

If these don't help then run System Restore to before the problem occurred.

Okay. Something very interesting have happened. First of all i tried safe mode yesterday and i still had the problem; but anyway i went out like in midday, and came back home at 4AM still had the problem. This morning i turned the computer on and bam! Somehow it got fixed. My tool bar and start menu have got set to default somehow(my old pinned stuff is gone; but its working now) Im thinking somehow windows patched it automatically although i can find no log of such update i must say. It somehow fixed itself. I can see the new>notepad etc. and see hidden files. Its all better so maybe if someone has this problem, give it a couple days before recovery etc.
I thank you guys for being involved with my problem offering any help you can, and may the gods of software have mercy on us all.

PC's only just appear to fix themselves. It's possible an infection was quarantined. Check your AV logs.

I would still check for infection, check System files, establish a Clean Boot, turn off all Browser add-ons and Search except Flash and Google, and go over the other http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/220165-troubleshooting-steps-windows-7-a.html. In doing so you will become much more familar with Win7, know how to troubleshoot, find other issues, prevent new ones, and know the Best Practices.
