Sony Vaio laptop keyboard mess up

this laptop from 2006 has Vista on it, so perhaps I am on the wrong place here, but I am trying to sort this problem out, while and before trying to upload to windows 7 in an other thread on this forum.

I want to do the upload in English because that is my computer language.

This Sony is in French.

I can add an other language by means of controle panel, regions and languages, but when

i change to English the keyboard becomes impossible to use. W instead of Z and so on.

Is there a way out off this ?

I did look at some old threads about the keyboard problem and some titulares but nothing for this ..........

Hi,
Which "English" did you select? For example did you add English (US) or English (UK) (there might also be an English (Europe) available there too). Perhaps you chose the wrong keyboard.

In Add Input Language you can Preview... the Keyboard layout before selecting OK.

Thanks so much iko 22 and no it does not work.

I followed all the instructions, I now have the second language ( English UK ) on the bar below but when its on EN I cannot type.
Still W instead of Z and so on
Will keep un looking for solutions

Does the keyboard look like this French Keyboard with "azerty" letters across top row, or does the keyboard have English "qwerty" along top row?

It might be that you need to select English (UK) language, but then select French Keyboard.

yes it looks like that, only difference is ; in the highest row (starts with 2 ) there is are 3 figures on each tap.

No, I am not given that option.

I found some things in the register ; HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Keyboard Layout/Preload or /Substitutes or / Toggle.

Should I change something there ?

I think the setting you want is in HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Keyboard Layout/Substitutes but I personally do not have the relevant country codes.

If the GUI will not suffice, then you might be able to change codes by using PowerShell.

If you are intending to replace ( French) vista with ( English) win 7, why are you changing the vista keyboard?

because I am afraid to make mistakes in the french computer language during this upload

Vista is not used during windows 7 installation.
The installation is done by booting win7 install media.
Vista is not involved at all.
