Sound and webcam stopped working!

My friend has a Dell Vostro 1710 but his sound and webcam have stopped working!

I have reinstalled the drivers!

All signs are that everything is working but when I open the volume screen it says that there is no audio device.

The same with the webcam - all looks ok but when opening dell webcam manager i get "no webcam device.

Windows media player does play avis/wmvs/dvds etc but without sound - audio cd's don't play they come up with "no sound device installed"!

Sounds like the hardware is duff?

Have you checked the device manager? If it shows sound card driver with yellow mark delete it and install the driver again and make sure your sound card is enabled in windows configuration.

I did go into device manager and it says the device is working properly!

Try format the windows and perform a clean install. Maybe it is some kind of virus which is blocking the sound card and webcam.
