Sound Through Two Devices

Ok, first my hardware:
Bose Companion 3 Interface - 3.5mm Stereo Jack
Insignia Portable USB Speakers Interface - USB

What I would like to accomplish is to have Windows 7 play sound through both of these devices at the same time.

My reasoning for this is that I have my Bose Speakers at either end of my room, about 12ft apart, and I would like to use the insignia speakers as tweeters if that is possible.

omureadhaigh, welcome to the forums.

Don't think that is going to work for two reasons,

1. Windows 7 (and Vista for that matter) only allows for one audio device to be set as the default at one time (then again so did XP), regardless ofg how many you have installed; and your sound card (onboard or an actual card) counts as one device, and the USB speakers as a second.

2. Don't know of any multi-media software that allows for playback from more than one device at a time. Some will let you choose which to use if there is more than one installed, but not use more than one at a time.

To accomplish this, you'd need mid to high end solution. For instance, my MOTU Traveler has an assortment of outputs both digital and analog. You can use bus mixes to output to different ones. For instance, you could have S/PDIF output simultaneously with analog output.

torrentg Wow I just watched some video of the traveler, what a nice piece of equipment. What's the price tag on one?

Yes, it's great! Professional on every level, from preamps to all ad-da conversions. When I bought it a few years ago, it was retailing at all stores for about $850. Not sure now. The model they make and sell now is called Traveler-MK3. I don't think there is any difference except that this new version has built in reverb, up to 60 seconds. Maybe other slight differences but I don't think so.

The Traveler and Guitar Rig 3 together make my computer a really really cool addition to my guitar setup.
