Have you installed the correct drivers?

Go into device manager by typing cmd in search, then device manager.

go to the appropriate tab (in this case display) and check to see that the driver for the graphic card and monitor is listed and working. Also check the sound driver.

Are there any "unknown drivers" with yellow triangles on them?

Computer specs, or at least the make and model would help. Main thing is what video card do you have?

Is the cable HDMI on both ends? Or is it a DVI (on the PC) to HDMI (on the TV)?

If the latter, the TV won't get any audio through the cable because the DVI (on the PC end) will only carry video signals.

Could it be you need to change the audio settings in control panel? I know somebody who had a similar problem and this is how they resolved it (i forget the sepcifics)

If his drivers are installed and he has HDMI on both ends it may be a matter of selecting the correct default output device. (I think this is what you mean)

Right click on the Microsoft speaker icon in the task bar, select Playback Devices.

What is your default playback device? (green check mark)

What options are available?
