I know that this is NOT the right forum but I thought someone may know.

I have an old computer that performs great with XP Home but it will not connect to the internet. If I remember correctly, this is caused by not having SP1 installed. Or someone may know why it is not connecting (hard wired).

Does anyone know where I might find SP1 for Windows XP.

Well I know this isn't the right forum, but:
1. The latest SP for Windows XP is SP3, not SP1. But you can install.
2. Just search Google for Windows XP SP3 microsoft and then you'll find the Network installation package.
3. Is your machine capable running Windows 7? Because Windows XP is out of support. Post all CPU-Z screenshots. Just search CPU-Z on Google.

Keep in mind, this isn't made by Microsoft...

Have you tried a Linux Distro on this old PC though ? Something like Lubuntu or Linux Mint XFCE works great on PCs of this age.

oneeyed, if i would chose Linux, then i will not install Linux Mint. I would choose Ubuntu for starters, like for him.
Huffman, can you post your CPU-Z screenshots of all the columns like i asked?

Erm... Linux Mint IS based on Ubuntu, you get all the community/support available for Ubuntu but with added features, a more streamlined UI and your choice of DE by default without changing of distro (MATE/KDE/Cinnamon/XFCE). It's also the main distro recommended for beginners/XP holdouts (check its position DistroWatch).

And XFCE/LXDE are the desktop environments recommended for older PCs... NOT Unity which is shipped by default on Ubuntu.

First of all I am not interested in installing any Linux.

I am not sure the SP3 will allow it to connect to the internet but will try it. Thanks.

From My Computer it shows the size of the hard drive and that Windows XP Home is installed, but NOT the memory size (weird). I may have to open the case and check the memory card to see what memory it has. I doubt seriously it has over 500 Mb. Even thought seems to be running XP very fast. If I have at least 1 gb of memory, I can install Windows 7 home and it should work fine.

I really don't want to reinstall XP on it either. It has been so long since I messed with XP I am not sure how it works any more LOL.

Well, click on My Computer and right-click. Then select Properties. And say all the Hardware like the RAM and the processor.
