Speaker System

Hi

Now I have a better Computer I would like to play my music on it in my own room (Dads not keen on my music) anyway the speakers in my monitor are OK...ish but I would like something with a better bass, I found this setup, looks nice to me but I would appreciate some advice please, around the same price

I have these speakers and I think they are very good value for money. I have a room which is 14 feet square and they can fill it with sound. I've never turned them up full.
Obviously, they would not please a real audio buff but from my point of view they offer good bass response and a well defined top and middle range.
Zepher is right to suggest headphones. If you spent the same amount on headphones you would get a very good sound indeed. However, there is the drawback that you would be wearing headphones
for long periods of time.
I would suggest that if you decide to go with headphones you read the reviews carefully and consider the weight of the phones, what people say about the comfort etc. Full over ear headphones can be heavy and uncomfortable to wear for long periods. They can get rather sweaty as well.
Also listening on headphones is not a shared experience.
If you're thinking of music and movies and you have friends I would suggest going with the speakers. Headphones are great for gaming as they give a very immersive experience.
If you pay a lot of money for phones you get better hi fi but it is a different experience altogether.

There are times where speakers are better, and other times that headphones are better, but if you have to choose one or the other, speakers should probably be the first choice....then maybe get headphones later. I have headphones, and I also run a cable from the computer to my regular stereo set (the big speakers are on either side of my computer desk) but I save the headphones for late at night when everybody else is sleeping.

have to agree with noob here - get speakers! you can always turn them down if it disturbs others.

those logitech ones look nice, especially at the price that johnwillyums linked to. i don't think you'll be unhappy with them.

If and when you do get some headphones, be reasonable with your volume levels. Protect your ears while they still work properly. If you turn it up for your favorite song, remember to turn it back down afterwards. I've lost some hearing over the years, and it's partly my fault because I used to crank the music all the time.

If you remember to not blast the tunes all the time, headphones are not bad for your ears....but you can do some damage if you're not careful.
