I know there are a lot of suggestions out there. What do the Microsoft Windows 7 Pros/MVPs suggest?

Check the Performance log to see what drivers or apps are hanging at startup or shutdown. Click WEI score at Computer>Properties, select Advanced tools. Look also for issues cued at top of Tools page, Generate a System Health Report.

Enable boot logging in by tapping F8 at bootup to select it from Advanced Boot Tools menu. Study which drivers are failing to load in log, replace those drivers.

Get to know your drivers intimately in the Device Manager. Make sure you have the latest from 1) installer, 2) optional WIndows Updates, 2) comptuter or Device maker's Support Downloads webpage. If necessary try Vista drivers, the try them installed in Vista compatibility mode.

When you have done more of this research, ask back on specific issues. Title your posts very descriptively to attract those who have had or know the issue.

Replace a mechanical hard drive with a solid state disc drive.
