SSD Maintenance RE: Anti-Virus?

Hello,

I read that SSD have finite write/read capability in each cell, and the more is written/read, earlier the SSD dies.

I'm curious then, Obviously Disk Defrag is a bad idea, what about anti virus scans?

AV scans usually read files, in my experience. Reading is no problem. It's writing that causes wear, so far as I know.

I think AV does more than just reading, since they need to tag what has already been scanned.

I own SAMSUNG 850 pro 256 Gb and they offer 10 year warranty.
What Im not sure what this warranty covers but I guess it doesnt matter how much read/write is done on the SSD...

10 years is far more then regular HDD lifespan is so I guess we are more or less safe from reaching SSD to die from "wear".

You can also review this since you didn't post the brand ssd you have which all of them have utilities to use to do the basics and some like Samsung's go a bit farther in helping optimize ssd life and performance,

As far as scanning it should not be done daily if that is the question there's really no need that is what real time protection is all about.
1-antivirus
1-malware helps if it's real time protection this is where most threats come from.

Again use the link to the forums utility to fill in your system spec's page for you all it takes is to make Internet explorer your default browser temporarily
That way your system is avalible under everyone of your posts so we can quickly see them

A monthly scan shouldn't be a problem.
Use Samsung magician.
The other ssd manufactures will have their own utility magician is only good for Samsung devices.

I use Intel ssd's and Intel does have a Tool Box that I use about once a week and have for years.

A quality ssd will last for many years in most cases. Some do go bad just like any other thing.
Many articles one reads about ssd's are old and don't pertain to the newer ssd's.

One installs a ssd for the same reason one installs anything in a computer; to use it not to worry about it every day.
Buy a quality ssd of proper size and just use and enjoy it. If it dies it dies. That is what RMA is for, like any other hardware.
