Is there a tool for testing a SSD? I was running the OS from it but I kept losing data so only use it for a secondary drive with programs on it.

You can use AS SSD or ATTO to test performance. Some SSDs perform better in one than the other. Vertex usually does better in ATTO.

Used Both Test Programs

I used both test programs and had the following:
AS_SSD = 190 MB/s Read w/ 161 MB/s Write Score: 153
ATTO = 211 MB/s Read w/ 169 MB/s Write
I don't know if this is good or bad but I was wondering if there was a program that would tell me if there were bad areas in the SSD drive that could be causing me to be losing data.
When I had the OS on the SSD I would eventually lose data and it would not boot up. I reinstalled the OS so many times MS had me revalidate my software. I would like to put the OS back on the SSD but am spooked by it. I don't think it's reliable.

Thanks for the information on the benchmark programs.

Your drive advertises Sequential reads of 250 and writes of 160. So, the tests show you are a little low in reads, but in the ball park. You can try a program like Crystal Disk Info that may tell you what you want to know. But, exactly what do you mean by lose data? There is no reason it should do that.

I tried Crystal Disk Info and it did not recognize my SSD as it came up as unknown. I'm over my head on this one.

I believe my problem could be System Mechanic. It says it can defrag the SSD but I read where it's never required. System Mechanic does it automatically on reboot when it detects a problem. I think that's the beginning of my lose of data. I will contact the techs at SM and see how to turn off the testing and auto repair.

I also found a update for the firmware on the Vertex drive. It corrects DOS read problems. The BIOS also has to be changed prior to updating. I'll back it up and try it also.

Appreciate your recommendations.

Get rid of System mechanic. You NEVER defrag an SSD. Those type programs will mess up a system.
