Solved Start menu icons populating slowly, help?

When I click the start button and the menu opens, I notice that many of the icons take extra time to load. What can be done about this?

FYI, this does not happen all the time, but it is kind of annoying

Do you have any background processes running that might be slowing the system down? You can experiment by going to Task Manager -> Processes, sorting by Memory usage, and killing processes one by one while checking the Start menu. Make sure to save your work in any open programs first!

Try this simple process (it will require a reboot) and see if it helps the start menu populating.

Click Start > type msconfig
Click the startup tab
Uncheck any program you do not NEED to start when windows starts (leave antivirus/spyware checked)
Restart

Click the start menu

Like everyone said, you may have a large load taking up CPU or RAM, simply try to remove any unnecessary programs which start up. That should free some memory.

Thing is, my memory usage doesn't often go above 33% and my CPU usage generally doesn't go above 25%. So I really don't know whats going on.

FYI, the icon issue doesn't generally happen when booting the PC. It happens at different times while using my PC, sometimes it happens long after the PC has booted and there is no real load on my RAM and CPU.

Well, when using your PC, things may react slower than usual depending on what you're running. (Games, Software, etc.) But you say that It occurs when not in usage.

Try checking what current programs/processes are running in the background. Try to remove any which are unnecessary, then reboot and see if the problem is still present. If it still is, you can turn those background programs on if you wish.
