Do you use CCleaner (or other cleaner software)? In CCleaner, click on Cleaner in the left-est panel, then under "Windows Explorer", uncheck "recent documents", "Run" and "Other explorer mru", that should make ccleaner leave behind the run entries. Tinker with these to see exactly which entry does what. If you use something else, look for similar entries in that.

The history of the Run command is called RunMRU and is stored in the following registry key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\RunMRU

Look in the right pane for the entries, you can also selectively delete them here.

I just checked on my machine and unchecking the "Run (in start menu)" entry makes the difference.

i just type devmgmt.msc
and %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\ ->Profiles | How to | Firefox Help

open the regkey and there is not devmgmt.msc
there is only a=C:\Users\mantra\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\\1

in xp i could use the arrow key to go up and down
in the run in w7 i can not find something to see my history

thanks

I found that if I un-ticked "Store and display recently opened programs in the start menu" in the taskbar and start menu control panel item that the start > run history wouldn't save the lines I typed. Maybe the issue is different for you, well, it was just a thought.
