Solved Start up Issue - Loss of graphics

H ave just recently bought a replacement PC and took it out of the box and set it up no problem. I then moved it and put it with another monitor, which had previously been OK. The problem I have is, when Windows loads I get the nice graphics but when the time comes to start I lose the graphics signal and the screen goes blank. Starting the machine in safe mode, it works, not updated any drivers and connecting it to the other monitor it works fine. I have checked both monitors and they both work. I've run chkdsk with no errors and run startup repair, with no errors - can anyone make a suggestion please as I don't want to buy another monitor.

There may be a problem with the device driver for the monitor. If you know the brand and model for the monitor that's not working, go to the manufacturer's website and see if they have a newer driver available for Windows 7. (You may find 2 different drivers - a 32-bit driver and a 64-bit driver. Choose the one for your computer.) You'll probably have to search for a link called "support and downloads" or "driver downloads" or something similar. Also on that same website you'll probably see a troubleshooting section with some suggested fixes. Just as an example, this is the HP site:

With the non-working monitor plugged in to the computer, you could also open the Windows 7 Device Manager. See if there are any yellow or red warnings/errors showing for the monitor.

Many thanks for the assistance, unfortunately the manufacturer doesn't have any drivers under their support section, but I will search the net and see if I can find a newer one, unfortunately the monitor is old and there's not much out there, but thanks for your help.

Just a thought and absolutely no disrespect intended. Sometimes hardware reaches a point where it's just not worth the aggravation trying to keep it updated and working. A new device will usually accomplish two things: (1) be compatible with existing software; and (2) provide several years of service with newly released software through manufacturer's updates. I know you'd prefer not to buy a new monitor but if a manufacturer no longer provides updates and support, it might be time. Especially considering sometimes 3rd party drivers can have unintended consequences like BSODs, etc.

Perhaps this compatibility website might show some monitors that would meet your needs.
