Startup Repair Loop

I had a virus on my pc, and i cleaned it out, but after i went thru superantispyware cleaner i cant boot into windows anymore. i keep getting this error:

chkdsk ran fine

i tried to fix my bootmgr i did all the 4 different resets in the cmd prompt in the startup repair for bootrec /fixboot bootrec /fixbmr bootrec /RebuildBcd
one time it showed me 2 os versions of windows 7 after doing the above 3 commands
i chose the 7 ultimate option not the 7 option, and then it continues do go into startup repair mode, i cant get out.

one thing i did notice is that it found windows 7 as an H drive, not sure if it matters...

Hi,welcome to SF
Its seems that you <confuse> ur system,it showed 2 OS probably because of the <repairs> you have tried,the H is a wrong partition,that created also from the false repair.

For ur case it may also help....if you can boot in safe mode you can try this http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/2282-default-operating-system-change-default-boot-os.html and fix some things.

the registry copy didnt work, didnt have a backup old enough, and i cant get into windows to do a repair install, but id like to keep my settings, is there anyway to do a repair install w/o losing that?

Start the pc,enter BIOS set priority boot to cdrom,place the win 7 dvd in the dvd drive,restart,press any key to boot from cdrom and continue with the http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/3413-repair-install.html

Please follow my advice,
Start the pc,enter BIOS set priority boot to cdrom,place the win 7 dvd in the dvd drive,restart,press any key to boot from cdrom and continue with the Repair Install
Just ignore the 1-4 steps,for you is start from step 5.

i clicked on Next on the Locals page(language time keyboard settings)
i clicked on Install
Setup is starting... message on the screen
accepted terms
Clicked on Upgrade
got a message saying: The computer started using the Windows Installation disc. Remove the Installation disc and restart your computer so that Windows Starts normally. Then, Insert the installation disc and restart the upgrade. (Do not select "Custom (advanced)" to perform an upgrade. "Custom (advanced)" installs a new copy of windows and deletes your programs and settings.)

Close

Close brings me back to the instlal now screen shot in step 5.... what do i do?

That means,you can't do an upgrade, you will need to follow my advice, and THIS TIME choose CUSTOM, if you have any files on the Partition that you don't want to loose then don't format the partition, just select it and hit next, all your files will be put in a folder called Windows old.
That in 99% of the cases works.

panais, you have obviously never attempted what he is asking and which is what i am needing. WE NEED to be able to do the repair setup without booting into windows. we do not want a windows.old folder we want the CURRENT state fixed not a new state.
