Hi there. I installed windows 7 on an old Dell Dimension, just because I didn't want to throw it away and I like a challenge. It worked great up until I installed another hard drive on a separate ide channel, along with the cdrom (although I tried several combinations of slave-master). Fact is, now (after the hookup of the second HDD, it takes forever for Windows to startup ( a good four or five minutes). Once up, the system recognizes all the drives and there are no problems. But when I need to restart it, wow! Any ideas?

Hard drive and CD on same channel means it runs in PIO Mode and not DMA mode because CD does not support DMA. Connect the hard drive as a slave on the same IDE cable as the first hard drive and you should be okay.

Thank you, Ztruker and gregrocker. I did what Ztruker recommended. Now it works fine and starts up right away. BIOs is still giving me an error message. But that has nothing to do with Windows. Probably the ide settings (CS, master, slave, etc). I'll look into that.

That's good news, glad it's working.
