Strange Icon In Pasword Entry Feilds

A friend has this icon in all her password fields across any application she has.

What is it?

She is using Windows 8, right? That icon is not strange, it is a feature of Windows 8. On clicking and holding it, it temporarily shows the actual password typed instead of the dots. No need to worry. It's normal!
