hi people
today i opened windows 7 after some 2 months to find a very strange phenomena taking place... i logged in my admin account but as soon as i logged in i found i am in a guest account.. a notification got displayed that i have logged in a temporary account and any data is stored will be temporary..i logged out and then logged in again but same problem.. i went to control panel to find another surprise waiting for me and the surprise was their it showed the account is admin and password protected.. but the system looks like a guest account only with limited softwares but it has admin priviliges i deleted the guest account and logged out and in again in my admin but still the same problem.. its like my comp have two conflicting opponents trying to prove that its both a guest as well as admin account...the greatest problem is all those softwares which i had downloaded and installed are gone..any body with any idea as to what the problem actually is?

Welcome Neoaryan: What software did you download and install? Maybe that could be the problem if it was from a nefarous site.

Can you log on as administrator and using restore go back to before you installed some of the software to see if one of those programs could have messed up your computer?

I had a similar issue when I installed the latest update (on Thursday). I had to restore from the previous day, which uninstalled the updates (which gave my rights back), then reinstall the updates (KB2487426 and the latest IE9 RC).

I got my profile and rights back. Hopefully it works for you.

This is probably the longest I've ever had a Windows machine run without having to restore it to scratch. I'm used to restoring to "factory" about every 2 yrs. I've run with Win7 since new in 2009 and only recently (Nov, '14) restored to clean up the machine from all my 'xperimenting. LOL!! I may never need another machine.

Upgraded to 10 when it was still free, then installed 2017 update.
Boot into Safe Mode, install and update Malwarebytes, run a Full Scan.

Try System Restoring back further until the problem goes away. Use the DVD Repair console or Repair CD: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/668-system-recovery-options.html

If this fails, create a new Administrative Account in User Accounts, delete all others except default Guest.

You can also copy out your files if needed using the DVD/Repair CD following this method: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/93347-copy-paste-windows-recovery-console.html

I had this on Vista and I don't know why, I deleted all accounts (not the hidden ones) and remade them and saved other account files.

It still could be a virus that was laying dormant, waiting for a particular system trigger. This trigger could have been provided by the update. Viruses also have a nasty habit of hiding in the system restore data.
So it's more than possible that it is virus related, despite you not being on the interweb that day.

Again: Follow the steps suggested by gregrocker.
