hello

recently I encrypted my hard drive using veracrypt. I am not sure if this problem is related to veracrypt or not.

here is the story:
my lenovo laptop with windows 7 was on
I went in the shower and came back and noticed it was off
I pressed the power button and laptop gets stuck on bios. there is a black screen, it says in big white letters "lenovo" and on the top left it says energy star
if I remove the hard drive, and power on the laptop, it says no bootable media, check cable.
if I remove the hard drive, insert my veracrypt rescue cd, and turn on the laptop, veracrypt rescue cd needs a hard drive, insert a hard drive.

I am wondering what else I can do.

Were you actively encrypting the drive at the time you were in the shower?

Is UEFI on or off in BIOS? That might be an issue. I believe Veracrypt can use UEFI, but I know UEFI is stored on the disk I do believe.

no, I encrypted last week.
I am not sure if UEFI is on or off. I cannot get into bios. no matter what key I press, F1 F2 shift F8 F12 it will not go to bios. if there hard drive is in, it's stuck at lenovo screen (white lenovo on black background) if the hard drive is out, it goes to "no bootable media. check cable" it will not go to bios screen.

does veracrypt marry the bios to the hard drive? if I flash the bios, am I at risk of being unable to decerypt my data?

You can find the Lenovo BIOS key here Lenovo BIOS Key - Boot Menu Key as it varies according to model. Having said that, the BIOS key should be listed on the Lenovo Splash Screen. That is where most manufacturers display theirs anyway.
