Dear gregrocker,

If let's say I pick "Microsoft system restore" or "System Recovery", will this fix my problem and save all the important files that I need?

One more thing, is it normal that when perform the HP checkdisk there's only 9% done on stage 1 and going back to the option page for checkdisk(Windows, recovery and dos)? When I do it for the second time it's only 2% done for 1 stage, then it return back to the checkdisk option page. Should I do the checkdisk until I get 100 percent complete on stage 3?

"Microsoft system restore" put your files as it ways in the past. But only dll, exe, registry etc. All personal documents will stay the same. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/700-system-restore.html

"system recovery" puts your disk in a state as it was when you bought it! All is gone. Not what you want.

Both options are not what you want!

Hello Kaktussoft. Thanks for your help.

Since I don't have any cd/dvd drive and my USB stick only 256MB which I still can't create the Windows Defender Offline on the stick although I have reformat it, is there any good option to fix this issue?

What were the results of the hardware diagnostics? Was the HD detected?

If so then you can continue working through the steps for Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Start
which lead up to if necessary rescuiing your files and running HP Factory Recovery (as already shown in post #19) or doing the superior Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 to get rid of the problem as well as the huge load of bloatware which HP's lard into their PC's.

It keep stuck at 1 stage with 9% process of checkdisk, then it come back to the option menu(windows, recovery, dos), so I pick checkdisk for windows again; 2%, then 5% and hang on 8%. I don't think this is normal.

I'm waiting for my sister response at this moment. Want to borrow her usb stick.

Hey guys, can someone tell me what is the newest price for USB-USB direct link bridge cable at this moment? Can I use this cable from the problem notebook to my vista or xp desktop?

Is there any USB-USB cable that I can use for this process? Can someone recommend one please.

Then try the maker's HD Diagnostic extended CD scan to determine with certainty the condition of the HD. Disk Check checks the file system, while the HD Diagnostics scan checks the physical condition of the HD.

Do you have an external HD to copy out the data using one of the methods in Step 9 of Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Start? I would do that first.

Hi gregrocker. I really appreciate your help man. Since the checkdisk hanging all the time, I'm planning to buy a USB-USB cross cable(male to male) to save the important data from the issue machine to my desktop. The thing is I don't know where to buy this cable. Is this cable still available somewhere on the NET? USB-USB direct link bridge cable is too expensive for a student like me. Then if I manage to transfer my important data to the desktop using this USB-USB cable(peer to peer), I will use the HP system recovery to puts the disk in a state as it was when I bought it! Is this a good solutions? What say you?

I don't know if the crossover cable will work with a rescue disk which you must use to access the data in unbootable Win7.

I would instead borrow an external HD.

Or remove the HD and plug it in to another PC via USB to SATA/IDE 2.5/3.5 converter cable set which is inexpensively available on Amazon. I have one here. When it doesn't read the data plugging 2.5 converter plug into laptop HD to one end and USB into another PC, I plug it from 2.5 HD directly into a SATA or IDE port on another PC and it always reads it then.

There are some of an external HD using USB isn't it? I thought I can use the USB-USB cross cable.

Love you man. Thank you so much for your help. I will update if I need more help from you or if I manage to fix the issues with the methods that you share. Thanks again.

Oh man. Now I have a new problem when booting the machine. This is the error:

A disk read error occurred
Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete to restart
And because this, I can't access the System Recovery(F11) anymore!

So restart the machine and I click F2 for HP Advanced System Diagnostics and run Start-Up Test, Run-In Test, System Tune-Up and Hard Disk Test. Everything give the same the results:

Processor Check: PASSED
Memory Test: PASSED
Hard Disk SMART Check: PASSED
Hard Disk Short DST: Failed

Failure ID: RLMPNF-655690-MFPX0J-60TN03
Product ID: B3J60PA#UUF

Hard Disk 1

Then I click F10 for BIOS. I did a Primary Hard Disk Self Test on Diagnostics and I've received "Hard Disk 1 Quick (303)" for the result.

I guess my hard disk is having a bad problem. So at this moment I was able to borrow an external hard disk from my sister but the thing is it contain my sister important file inside. Since creating a bootable Windows 7 USB will be formatted to NTFS, I can't proceed yet. Is there any ways to counter this? By the way I'm downloading the Paragon Rescue Kit 11 Free Edition right now. Is this the right choice in the current situation?

I already started to feel the stress! :(

Hey gregrocker. Can I install the Paragon Rescue Kit Free Edition 11.0 on the external hard disk without reformatting it?

It's intended to be burned to CD. Use Windows Image Burner by rightclicking the ISO.

If you need to use flash stick then write the WIn7 installer to ISO using steps given in Step 5 of troubleshooting tutorial.

Hi gregrocker. Is the paragon rescue kit comes with an iso file? I can't boot this on an external harddrive where I have install paragon on. So I quit paragon and try the Windows 7 USB DVD Download Tool but I have issue with iso. 3.0GB is quite big to downlaod. So I download vLite but I can't locate the windows vista installation files. I'm still stuck with my issue but I manage to buy a portable 5oogb hard disk. Please help!
