Stuck on update installing

Help, I've been stuck on windows update installing 9 of 50 for over 10 hours.
It is a new computer, less than 3 days old.

When I manually switch off and restart the computer, it instantly goes back to the updating screen even when I press f8 repeatedly or hold down the f8 key.

How can I reboot it successfully?

you can switch auto update of windows off and put it on manual mode and then try restart,,,, initially it will take time for configuring the updates when you will shut down and during the next start but after that it will go smoothly also you can manually update your computer when you decide so

Thanks but I can't get to a place where I can turn windows update off. Thanks for the help. In the end i removed the battery, waited a minute, put it back in, and then did a system reboot and now trying a restore. From now on i'll definitely put automatic update off.
