I am not familiar with that website so is software from them safe to use??

And how about the avs4you.com website?

There are two version of AVSVideoConverter 2.2.1 and 6.3.371, is the latter one really newer?

Hello, McSeven.

My first impression of both sites was good. They seem relatively decent and I doubt that they'd have any malicious files. You can generally tell this by looking at the quality of the web design and how much effort has been put into the site.

All reviews on the sites are mostly positive as well, so I don't see any issue. It'd still be in your best interest to scan anything before using it. Good luck.

I use Shark007 Codecs and they work really good. In fact when I had Vista I also used his Codec package.

As the others have said, I've used the Shark Codecs thru Vista x86, Vista x64 and now 7 x64, and have never found a single issue or had a single complaint. Top class!

What videos are ya'll trying to play that you need extra codecs. Win 7 plays virtually everything without codecs. The only thing I have tried to play that didn't work was a H.264 .mp4 that had AC3 audio(video played but no audio). Installed Haali Media Splitter and now that works fine. By the way, VLC will play virtually anything without any codecs, H.264 .mp4 with AC3 included.

I think it screws up Win 7 installing this codec pack, then that codec pack, then uninstalling this one, then that one. If you don't know what you are doing the best thing to do is just install VLC player and leave those codec packs alone.

I also like Shark007's codec packs for W7. His settings applications (see screenshot) really make it easy to configure which filters and splitters are used for each media file type and it is a snap to make changes. Also, he keeps the various codecs and splitters up to date with his frequent updates. This is important to me.

I was never satisfied with the performance or interface of VLC, but that's just me. Many people are happy with it. For an all in one (no codec pack needed) solution, I prefer "The KM Player." But I just keep that installed as a backup in case my usual combo of Sharks codecs plus MPC-HC fails to work satisfactorily (hasn't happened yet though).
