Sudden loss of hard drive free space

I've had a sudden loss of my hard drive space. I've deleted alot of stuff, like over 20GB, more then just a few times and it just disappeared in less then 2 days. I've read some topics here with the about same problem and tried what they sugested there: to use software like WinDirStat, TreeSize Free and SpaceSniffer. But they just won't show me my whole hard drive. The stop at 50% and show it as if they have scan the whole 100%. And its gettind really bad, had gone down to 4mb free hard drive space left already... Any ideas how to fix this?

Have you run the hard drive manufacturer's disk utility to see if the drive is actually defective?

You could also run checkdisk--that might take several hours.

Have you run Windows 7 disk cleanup?

How much space do you have allotted to System Restore?

Have you been doing a lot of installing and uninstalling?

Have you done a complete virus/malware scan?


Can you post a picture of your Disk Management, showing partitions and sizes?

I think I found the solution to my own problem. I found those 154gb worth files (294 files), they were at C:\Windows\Temp. And the reason none of the software I tried could read that folder was because it was protected by administrator rights. And just incase, I've done everything you sugessted except the first thing, couldn't find that utility. But I quess my harddrive is fine since I found were to did all of my memory disapeare. Thanks for you help!

In start Search type in cmd then on the cmd.exe right click and select run as administrator. At the blinking cursor type in chkdsk /f and reboot. Chkdsk will run at startup and may take an hour or two. This will find and attempt to fix disk errors.
