Hello Wixi.

Code:
17/12/2009 23:24:40 C:\Windows\system32\DRIVERS\atikmdag.sys

Those are the drivers for your graphics card, damn, feels like ancient ;)

So please without further ado, head on over here to update them:
AMD Driver Autodetect

Cheers, Boris :)

Hi Boris,

I've just run the Autodetect tool and it's given me "amd-catalyst-15.7.1-without-dotnet45-win7-64bit.exe ", which is the same driver as the one that caused a BSOD when I tried to install it about a week ago...

Hi Boris,

Thanks for the link. do I need to uninstall anything else before trying this driver out (sine I already uninstalled the ATI Control center software)?

Thanks. :)

No not really, that is if you of course have uninstalled the previous drivers.

Hi Boris,

Do you mean the "C:\Windows\system32\DRIVERS\atikmdag.sys" driver you mentioned a few posts back? If so, what would be the best way to uninstall this - via device manager?

Thanks. :)

Hi Wixi.

No no you will never need to go into that folder and delete a driver, when using something like DDU or Revo Uninstaller or even the Programs and Features in Windows, it will delete the file automatically.

Boris :)

Hi Boris,

I'm still a bit confused, as I've looked through Revo and can't find a way to remove any actual drivers with it.

Hi Wixi.

Yes it's a bit tricky to explain it so that even someone with no computer experience understands it, sorry should have considered this.

You'll have to look for either the Catalyst Control Center or Crimson whichever you have installed at the moment, within Revo that is.

So uninstalling CCC/Crimson will remove the driver for your graphics card, a bit tricky.

You'll need to boot into safe mode to actually be able to remove the display drivers, in normal mode they're in use and thus can't be removed.
I'd recommend doing so with Display Driver Uninstaller because it'll change for 1time the settings of Windows Update so Windows Update won't install the driver again when you reboot.

Thanks axe0,

Could you tell me which link is best for downloading the driver uninstaller from, as I've found several links on Google?

Thanks Boris.

I though I'd already downloaded the older driver you posted a link to earlier, but must have forgotten to do so. When I clicked the link just now it displays "file not found". I've searched around for another download link for this driver version but can only find ones for Windows 8.1 and 10, not 7.

Hi Wixi.

After having a bit of a struggle finding the page I wanted, I stumbled across it at the AMD support forum, so here you'll find a list of previous driver versions for AMD based GPUs:
Previous

I would recommend that you try the 15.7, because didn't you say that the problems started after having installed 15.7.1?

Cheers, Boris :)

Hi Boris, thanks for the link.

I knew the driver links were somewhere on that site but couldn't find them.
The 15.7.1 driver caused a BSOD when I tried to install it, so I'm really hoping this older version won't do the same. I'm still a bit wary after last time.

Hi Boris,

Sorry for the delay. So far things seem stable after running the uninstaller and installing the new driver.
I haven't had any BSODs so far either. Thanks! :)
