Suggestions for this great forum ...

Hi, I was surprised to have found forums which are specialized on Windows 7 already.
Have compared a few about their look & feel as well as their competence.

Sevenforums has won for me.

Can I make a suggestion which is entirely constructive and not meant to be trouble ?


I use a 24 inch screen for little over a year now and the space available is mindblowing compared to my old 17 inch one.
When using Internet Explorer, I noticed that some websites still don't adjust to those having bigger screens.
Their sites are like designed for small to tiny screens.

I understand that the website designers try to enable all users to be compatible, but it does look outdated when a little window opens, the size of three fingers, in which you need to scroll in order to see more content, while your space available would be more like 9 hands instead of three fingers.

That is not so bad as other forums are much worse in that respect.

Another suggestion regarding your color scheme is more dear to me:

In the picture under A) you have chosen a color very pleasing to the eye.
Not only is blue my favourite color, but it also matches the good all around design.
Only thing which is annoying me amazingly is that white field under B).

It blindes.

White makes a clean and decent impression, but using a forum for many hours or internet in general, makes my eyes slowly tired.
It has become so significant that it's affecting me in how often I use this forum now.

An extreme example of what is very relaxing to the eye is [H]ard|Forum - Powered by vBulletin where I don't wanna say dark colors are the only way, but going for pastel or any different color than blinding white would be such a big improvement "in my eyes".

Who could make a desicion on sevenforums in this case ?
I would suggest to try a pastel color instead of white, for only a few weeks and see how the feedback is.

What do you think ?

I'm using currently a 22 inch monitor and find the Forum and text size is fine

I'm currently also watching tv (SCI-FI channel), keeping an eye on Man Utd score on the BBC website and posting on this Forum.

nothing wrong with Text sizes / etc.

Suggest you cahnge the DPI in "personalisation" or use the correct resolution for your screen

Mine works fine at 1680 X 1050 and I'm only using the built in Video card on the motherboard. I've adjusted the DPI to Medium as I don't like to sit with my nose touching the screen.

Uhm, it's not he text size.

Using the 1920 x 1200 resolution, I can still press CTRL and using the wheel of my mouse to adjust the text size.

Your screenshot shows it very nicely again.
It's basically the part of the forum window ... the shiny, white one.
Yeah, it might be a question of taste.
Have you checked hardforum's color scheme ? That's an example in opposite direction, but you might see what I mean.

Hi Cov and welcome to the forum,

The Forum and in particular the forum skin are "work in progress", there are alternative skins available in normal and wide formats you can try these out from the selection drop down at the lower left of the screen, Once you find the one you prefer you can set this in the user control panel

I have changed now to widescreen and saved it under Edit Options in the user CP.

Only thing left is the color scheme. When you say that the forum skin is a "work in progress", do you think there might be a chance that the blinding white get's abolished ?
If that's the case, I'm going to apply for a moderator, lol.

I'm not sure if it will change from the white but you will notice that most of the skins here and at Vista Forums, (Our sister site ) actually use a subtle pastel background

I have just now ... it's quite interesting cause the bright white color has become better to look at.
I would desribe the white parts now like paper which has become old and turned kind of yellow-ish ?
I like this idea, even as a new color scheme for this forum because of said reasons.

Not sure I want to keep it for everything I run on Windows, but thank you for this tip.
You learn something new everyday.

Mr Grim ... that's nice of you to think about how to improve the color scheme.

It looks like the blue has become very intense and the white has been dimmed down in your screenshot.

I was more thinking of leaving the blue part as it is and changing the white into a pastel color ... maybe a soft creme tone like this:

Hmm, that just remind me on some other idea. We have Windows touch coming up soon, but what about Windows smell ?
Wouldn't that be the next logical step ?

It's a suggestion in progress, so we will have to see what to do with the white frame for example.

See, I was using a very dimmed down screen over last night and it was a pleasure for the eye ... honest, you should try for a few hours and you would see what I mean.
Anyway, the bright white does affect me and the suggestion above is 100% serious ... unlike the implementation of smell, lol.

The new v2 design is just right imo. Maybe people could submit their own themes and then we'd have more choice?

Ok, now I think that it would make perfectly sense to use a default color scheme which is up to the developer.
And let forum users select and save one to their own taste from a drop down menu, next to the one located on the very bottom left hand side of the index screen.

I was happy that Barman58 pointed me to this the other day, because by default SEVENFORUMS seem to be set to 3:4 screens.
Using this drop down menu I have changed it to 16:9 and it looks and feel definately better for my 24 inch screen.

So, to avoid any arguments whatsoever, wouldn't this additional option be a welcoming feature ? ... making SEVENFORUMS even more awesome than it is already anyway !
