Superfetch

Hello!

I have alwsays been getting fast and decent replies here so I´m starting a new thread (I hope this is the right place to start it)

This might be to much text for you guys but please read the two headlines atleast (and sorry for my bad english).

My problem is that I can´t get my superfetch to start!
The symptoms is:
My theme keeps switching between my custom theme and Window 7s Aero theme. My Internet card seems to have some trouble as well but i have found temporary solutions for that (It does NOT necessarily have anything to do with superfetch but figured i should mention it).

I found out about superfecth when i bought this USB stick yesterday and was going to use as a ready boost. Now in "proporties>Ready boost" tab of the USB stick win7 said that Sysmain was disabled but could be enabled with some tool, so i googled it and found superfetch and it was disabled.

Here is where the problem starts: when i press start on the superfetch service it starts as it should but after 3 min its off, the internet card is inactivated and the Aero theme is back. If I put in the USB stick directly after i´ve started superfetch everything as mentioned above happens but without the 3 minutes of waiting...

By the way, i dont get any messages about superfetch doesnt work or anything.

Anyone got a clue? ... please help

When you look at you Event Viewer Logs do you get an error number or anything pertaining to readyboost or superfetch? Type event viewer in the Start/Search Bar and hit return to open event viewer and take a look and post any errors that you see.

Well, I got a swedish version of Win7 (for obvious reasons)
so searching for Event viewer in search bar didn´t work but i think i found it anyway.

In the error logs I found an error that appears several times a day (If it helps, the "Event ID" is 1005). the source is called an application Error, pretty obvious,

Also i got several of different "Event ID´s" from "Service Control Manager".

All the Errors from Service Control Manager ID´s is:
7000, 7001, 7009, 7011, 7022, 7023, 7031, 7032 and 7034.

This may work, but after all the reading it may be your best shot. If superfetch is running stop the service but leave it set to automatic in services before you try and delete the readyboot folder! You get to services by typing in "services" in the search bar and hitting return in the start menu and scroll down to superfetch and click stop "if it's running" in the upper left hand pane after highlighting it.

go to My Computer --> Local Disk-->Windows--> Prefetch.
Delete everything and MAKE A NEW FOLDER called: "ReadyBoot" or delete all the deletable contents in the folder and leave it empty.

Then Go To:
Start-->All Programs-->Accessories--> Command Prompt and Right Click on it and "Run as Administrator" if you get a prompt asking you if you want to run this program click yes.

in the command prompt windows, type in:
chkdsk /f /r
it will give you a message to schedule a volume check next time you restart the computer. Type in 'y' and restart the computer.

This is going to run a complete disk check and may take over an 1 or better depending on the size of hard disk. After the repair finishes, the computer will restart. It will load much longer, but then after a couple of reboots, it will be back to normal. When the desktop will load, it should not show the error. REMEMBER TO FOLLOW THE PREFETCH DELETE INSTRUCTIONS!

This information was taken from an info site but after reading a lot of issues with superfetch they pretty much say the same thing on how to fix it. I'm not saying this will cause I haven't tried it but it's not going to hurt anything. Please post back if the issue gets fixed by this.

Sorry for being pain in the ass here but should i try this even tho my superfetch isn´t running? just skip the part about it being running?
