swapped vista for windows 7, world of issues

hi people, im new to windows 7, ive only ever had xp but just got given my 1st laptop and im having a world of issues, ive had a flick through the site and you guys look as though you are the bomb at sorting out peoples catastrophies, hope you can help because i dont think its gunna be easy,

i got given the laptop with a faulty hdd which had vista on it, my daughters laptop had a broken screen so i decided to put her hdd in the laptop with faulty hdd, i knew there would be driver issues but what i wasnt counting on was, here is the list

base driver missing
keyboard is all wrong( tried alt+shift,made sure it was english layout)
mouse touch pad movement causes bsod(have to use usb mouse)
this is not a genuine copy of windows 7(pre installed from retailer)

i have scoured for hours to find some solutions but to no avail, even tried to go back to xp but got bsod and it wouldnt let me install it but i really want to keep windows 7 if i can, hope you guys can help, thanks in advance

Where did you buy your Windows 7 from?

To me, the solution seems pretty easy. Since the copy of Windows 7 was meant for another laptop, you'll need a legit license for yourself. Once you get that, back up the data off the laptop, wipe the drive clean, and do a fresh install of Windows 7. Have the drivers for the laptop ready on a flash drive, and then load them once Windows 7's install is complete. That's around two hours of work, and you'll be running as if it is a brand new computer.

hi guys thanks for the replys, i havnt got a copy of windows 7, the laptop came from carphone warehouse so cant do a fresh install but did try to install xp but it got to windows setup then got bsod, but i want to see if i can save windows 7

You have to do a fresh install.

You will never save that.

I have 20 years of PC repair experience and you will never get that to work right any other way.

There's nothing stopping you from buying a legit copy of Windows 7 and doing a fresh install, as we've been suggesting.

The OEM version of OS is tied to the other laptop, so get a retail copy of Win 7 and do a clean install, as said by DeaconFrost. As for XP if it is an OEM version for that laptop and you have all the drivers it should install.

You may need to put the drive in an external enclosure to test it or attach it to another PC with cables and test it with it laying outside of the case.

The Win XP install would need the Sata Controller drivers, before installing.

Buy a legit copy. Appears that you have a 64-bit laptop. You will need to get a 64-bit version of Win 7.

The easy way out is to buy Win 7 and buy a harddrive for the laptop. Install Win 7 clean on a new hdd (or ssd).
