Sygate Personal Firewall alternative?

If you find that you prefer to rely on Comodo for connection alerts I don't really see a problem with that!l
one application per task :p
I write 'tinywall' thinking of 'threatfire'. sorry for confusion, I did correct my posts.

I started over. Tinywall does the job nicely, I would recommend it to average user.
I gave zonealarm second chance, after settings raised to 'paranoid' (I must have missed it last time?) it does what I want, blocking (almost?) everything.

I have another issue: how to block /prevent given application from opening web page (opening web browser)?
I think it's out of firewall might :(

any idea why 'scan for rootkits' in AntiMalware is UNCHECKED by default? I feel bit vulnerable

Mostly because it is still in beta stage and it also slows down the scan considerably.
You can enable it like I did though, shouldn't have any problems.

No, if you malwarebytes installed no reason for it. (if you have it checked to scan for rootkits)

Hi, i know this thread is so old it has grown mold and most of you would have even forgotten it even existed, if you havent, you dont have much of a life. i liked what i read on this thread. i liked the sygate approach, it didnt let anything in or out, unless i gave it the go ahead. I finally was able to track down some annoying trojan that would replicate itself and send out for popups. it was very tricky, but one night i finally found it and put it out of its misery, before it could send out for an infected pizza delivery man. windows firewall does not have that capability or does it ? the threatfire (owned by the same company who bought sygate and discontinued it, Norton) mentioned will do it if it is maxxed out on paranoid ? is this still the case ? if not, what is my best option ? presumabley i would turn off windows firewall once i got another firewall up and running ? i want a simple firewall that lets me know what the traffic is going into/out of my computer.

I was just reading the description of Zone alarm,, it sounds like it does much the same as Sygate used to.
brings up the message when something wants in or out. that's all i need..

because virus's are made to fool firewalls and av programs..

Sygate Personal Firewall was definitely the best firewall ever!!!
Now trying many others but most of the them they are too heavy and too resource hoggers and decided to stop on a combination of PrivateFirewall + Free Firewall but not fully satisfied.

I don't use to buy software but I would definitely pay for a SPF for Windows 7!!!
Maybe some skilled programmer will manage to adapt it to latest Windows OS???
Would be great and would make a lot of money! ;)
