Here's my vote for Input Director... after running Synnergy for a few weeks im VERY glad I found ID... its faster, more stable and way better at linking up my computers "behind the scenes".

I tend to agree with you. ID is very nice and I would use it in a heartbeat if it would only recognize the monitor configurations I have.

Tis very sad.

Windows 7 Ultimate x64 is the master.

Another tip; check in ADVANCED settings that each screen has a different name and that the ports are the SAME (I have 24800). INTERFACE is BLANK.

Thanks for the tip... I must now hang my head in shame! I had a value in place for the slave laptop... it worked previously. It works now.
Windows 7 x64 as the master, x32 win7 as the slave.

Has anyone had problems getting Synergy to work with SUSE or any other linux os? I'm using Win7 64bit as the server and my openSUSE desktop as the client on my home network and I cant get the client to connect. I thought it was windows fire wall, but I opened the default incoming port (24800 I think) and tried just turning off the firewall completely to no avail. The command line in suse terminal keeps telling me that its unable to establish a connection to the server IP or that its timing out. It may be unrelated, but I've been unable to get vnc working 100% either. I considered just buying a KVM switch, but it bugs me I can't get this to going. Any ideas?

Thanks,

-Ten

Synergy seems to be running fine here using Win 7 Home Premium on server and client. Only installed it around 30 mins ago.
I already had big problems when trying to get it up and running with both computers on Win XP Pro earlier today. The problem was that the client couldn't recognise the server. This was solved by using the server's IP address rather than computer name.
Fixed the problem in XP - armed with this basic information, I tried it in '7 and it works. Both computers are "linked" within a few seconds of startup.
I am new to Synergy so don't know if other problems will surface - I'm not holding my breath - but if anyone is struggling, try changing name to IP address as described above

Input Director isn't multi platform. Apart from that, it's the best available thing and it never lags, not even on a virtual WiFi hotspot using 'Connectify' which is freeware for Windows 7. I'm now trying to figure out how to make it automatically send a Wake-on-LAN (WoL) / Wake-on-WLAN (WoWLAN) magic packet to slave systems that have entered sleep mode, upon trying to switch mouse and keyboard to them.

Hello. Has anyone tried using Synergy? I'm trying to share my desktop's keyboard and mouse with my laptop, which are both running Windows 7. My laptop reports that it is connected to my desktop, however my desktop just says "Waiting for clients..." and nothing happens.

Thanks for reading.

I'm having the same problems with Windows 7. Synergy flat out does not work with Windows 7 x64 bit version.

I've been using Synergy for years, it is the only package that will permit me to configure my monitors to work. I have 4 monitors mounted 2x2 or :: (each dot=monitor)
To the left of my quad setup, I have a landscape rotated monitor that is attached to my laptop below it, so it is:
;::

I've used Synergy to map the left side of the monitor to go to the right side of the laptop and its extended display. Input director does not work because it wants all your monitors to be configured in a straight line.. so when I scroll back to my destop quad monitor, my cursor appears on the rightmost monitor, instead of scrolling back in from the left.

Synergy works with 32bit Windows 7. I used it for months using my desktop running vista 32 as the master.

Once I reinstalled a clean copy of Win7 ultimate x64, synergy will not work, period.

I have disabled the firewall on both machines. Tried running it in admin mode, then as compatible for Windows xp SP2, no avail. It simply will not talk.

I just wanted to add my 2 cents, and hopefully figure out if anyone gets an answer.

I think I may have found the issue. I have synergy working now, after days of searching!

I had the exact same problem, Synergy worked fine on XP 32 but with win 7 ultimate 64 bit all I got was the "waiting for clients..." message. I tried every suggestion I could find from this thread and others. Firewall - off and on, Run as admin - off and on, Ports configured correctly, compatibility mode xp etc etc. After several days of playing with it, I finally stumbled on a couple things that made the difference.

First I had to download the CORRECT Synergy application, it's an easy mistake to make, Synergy won't work with Win 7, BUT Synergy-Plus will and it's found on a different webpage entirely. Google "synergy-plus", it's the first result synergy-plus - Project Hosting on Google Code - Choose the 64 bit Synergy-plus (1.3.5-rc-Windows-x64.exe) download and install over your existing Synergy application, it will save your config settings. Run the app, it may still look like it is not working giving the same "waiting for clients" message, like it did for me. Now, click the synergy icon, the main application dialog box comes up, click the "AutoStart" button and choose "When You Log In" instead of "When Computer Starts". Start the app then reboot and it should work fine.

I am now able to run Synergy on Win 7 ultimate 64 bit as server, which has 4 monitors of it's own, and I connect to 4 slave systems, 3 of which are XP 32 bit, and another win 7 Ultimate 64 bit system with dual monitors (total of 9 monitors and 5 keyboards all being controlled by Synergy+). Clipboard is shared and everything works as it did when this machine was XP 32.

Additional notes on settings:
-I did forward ports for Synergy but a friend who had the same issue issue didn't and he's running fine.
-I have UAC turned off, annoying pos!
-I have windows firewall turned on
-I run Synergy as administrator but it seems to work without it being admin
-I don't run Synergy in compatibility mode

Basically it runs without any special tweaks, as long as you have the right version and you have it run when you login instead of when your computer starts.

Hope it helps

Updated version of Input Director - v1.2.2

Hi JRHelgeson,

A new version of Input Director was released a couple of months ago that supports more flexible monitors setups (e.g. 2x2 monitors on a single system).

Regs,

John.

Has anyone found a solution yet for having Synergy autostart as a service on system startup so one can have synergy running in order to use the shared keyboard/mouse for logging in to the computer?

What about the emulation of ctrl-alt-del with synergy. It used to work fine with Winxp (ctrl-alt-prtscrn I think it was)... now doesn't work.

Its still that damn win7 security getting in the way, I think.

Synergy was a great software in the past, like a lot of stuff was and became garbage like windows after XP..

It's seem that a lot of developpers are following that buggy way of thinking and that's the reason why it's not compatible between different versions. (joking.. i'm just frustrated).

I used synergy for years and now, it's just became a big lot of troubles.

BUT... they call it Synergy + (plus) now......

LOL

+ what?? + buggs??

Avoid using it until all of these bugs are fixed... If they are..

OK, I have been messing round for hours with this. This is what I have discovered:

When you tell synergy to start with the computer, it installs in Win7 as a background service. You then can't change anything without first stopping the service. This is why it says connected all the time on the host, even though it doesn't appear to be.

This is what I did to get it working (XP host, Win7 Ultimate 32bit client):

1. Open task manager on the client
2. Stop the synergy service
3. Kill any synergyc.exe process that's running
4. Uninstall
5. Reboot
6. Reinstall syngergy+ 1.3.4 (on both machines)
7. Set up again if it forgot your settings.
8. Start synergy on the host then the server. Should work.
9. Click on uninstall for "start with computer"
10. Click on install for "start with user login"

To resume, it's the auto start that seems to screw things up. If you choose start with computer it screws things up and you have difficulty untangling the mess.

If you still can't get it to work, make sure everything synergy related is deleted on the win7 machine;

So, what you're saying is it's impossible to get it to work correctly as a service on windows 7?

I can get synergy to work fine for my users when I set it to run on logon. But as soon as I set it to run on boot it does not work at all. Not even if I restart the services when logged on. I'm using synergy 1.3.5 for 2 W7 pro 64bit machines. as there are 4 users using the PC's the profiles get logged out every time there is a shift change so I need it to run from power up. Can anyone get this working. I'm pretty desperate to get working asap.

Thanks,
Loc
