The sfc /scannow command works ok on here but is there one to scan and fix such as the chkdsk /f/r

What Ive got here is a really slow startup which maybe should have a different subject.

I've refreshed the MBR and run Fixboot at the command prompt.

I've run the special command to run sfc called sfc enable on Win7 where it normally runs on XP.

Any other tips for slow startup appreciated: would a cleaning suite such as Malwarebytes be beneficial
for this problem?

Where is the slowness? Is it when you are initially boooting, before Windows takes control (the 4 color fire flies screen) or after Windows is in control?

What starts when you boot your computer?

Download and install CCleaner from the following link:
CCleaner - Standard

During installation, uncheck the option to install the Yahoo toolbar.

Click on Tools (ICON) and Select the following BUTTONS to create two (2) text files:

* Uninstall > Save to text file (install) – bottom right corner of app window
* Startup > Save to text file (startup)

Locate and open each saved file in the ‘Documents’ FOLDER:

* Copy and paste the contents of each file into your next post (2 files).

Re: when the slowness starts:

Definitely during the pulsating logo screen (which I really dislike.)

I have a number of installs and this particular HD seems to have the problem where others don't.
It's like it's taking the time to run the chkdsk routines in the background.

The disk is old and wearing out. Crystal Disk info says so.

I will do your instruction. With all of the cleaner routines I've seen at sites yours is the first to offer to have me look at a log-- something I'd like to be able to do myself from the various progs.

Since the problem is before Windows is doing much I think it's a hardware problem.

If the hard drive is going bad, backup your data and replace it would be my recommendation.
May very well solve the slowness problem.

I'm keeping an eye on the end of the year sales.

I know that the on board video can't be it and
I'm puzzled as well by flaky video and mouse freeze up. It's not able to read a number of
-- what? -- load commands.

I have backup.

I have not done the instruction because I had a freeze up (mentioned above) the last load of that drive.
I didn't get that far before the flake out.

Thanks for trying to help. I run the routine on something that works just for the practice, but no need to analyze and take up more time.
