system goes back to logon screen when i hibernate

hello,

I'm using a Dell Inspiron 5110 with windows 7 Home Premium. Whenever i choose to hibernate this system, all that happens is the screen dims to black for a moment, and then the log in screen comes up.

I've restarted the computer and the problem continues. I don't have any hardware plugged in to the computer, and there are no programs running in the background. In the Windows Task Manager, I recognize all the Processes that are running and see nothing unusual.

Please i need help

all my drivers are up to date...i'm just so confused right now.

Does selecting sleep do the same thing as selecting hibernate?

If it still goes back to the log on screen with a clean booth, then reset the settings for the power plan that you are using:

I was having this problem too and I have done everything which people said above to update drivers / restore power plans etc. but nothing works.

This is how I fixed it !!!!

Right click on My computer, click on MANAGE.
Now goto "Disk Management", "Right Click" on your current windows installation drive (Generally its C) and mark as "MARK PARTITION AS ACTIVE" and you are DONE!

Reboot your machine and check if it works

Be careful as setting wrong partition as active may result in system not booting up. It surely doesnt have to by C drive.

First, GPT doesn't have Active partition. Only MBR does.
On MBR OEM drives on computers like Dell, the active partition isn't the C: but the System partition (normally no letter assigned)
The System partition has the manufacture maintenance tools.
If you change the active partition it may not boot or you loose those tools.

Back to the OP issue:
It seems that the computer isn't entering the hibernation mode but into sleep mode.
