System Image Fails ... Instantly

Hey,

As far as I can tell, the typical backup is working, but for some reason when I click the button to create a system image, it just gives me the following error:

The backup application could not start due to an internal error:

The specified service does not exist as an installed service. *(0x80070424)


This is a fresh install (not an upgrade) of Win 7 Pro x64. Any thoughts?

If you are trying to make the image on CD for one reason or another it will not work. I and many others had that problem.

OK I tried all of the suggestions that involved starting/setting various Services, and I still get the error. So I did sfc /scannow and saved the results to a text file as outlined in the link from richc46. The Command Prompt said that sfc found corrupted files but could not fix them all, unfortunately I have no idea how to interpret the log file, so if anyone has the time to take a look at it, that would be great.

When SFC finds corrupted files it cant fix it means it doesnt have a "clean" copy to work from. One option to provide that copy is to do a repair install.

If you have a win 7 DVD you can boot from it and select repair my computer. Your data should be safe.

While you are in windows,

Place your Windows 7 installation DVD into the DVD drive, while still in Windows 7 (Step 1), and click on the Run setup.exe option in the AutoPlay window from within the currently installed Windows 7.

It will update after the installation if not during. It will also check before to make sure you have what is needed to do the installation.

My last one took about 30 mins.

Even my clean install only took 30 to 45 mins. then updates and a driver or two.

Not sure why yours takes several hours.

Well, the time that happened to me was on my primary system, and my primary system has a good 2TB of data on it. The laptop I am working on now has much less.

Before I do this, is it true that I may lose some drivers during all this? And if so, is there a way I can enumerate a list of drivers so I'll know if anything is missing?

You can back up your drivers with app.

I don't really want to back them up per se ... I did find this program which saved all the driver info in a txt file ... DriverView: Loaded Windows Drivers List
