There is an option in the wizard to take an exact copy. I don't know if that is strictly a clone

It's certainly in th Pro version. I can't remember if it is in the free. It's accessed by pressing the advanced button on the "Finish" screen in the wizard. You can also set it as a default under compression.

Yeah, I saw that. But that only "clones" the partition, not the whole disk with all its partitions. The cloning I was talking about is an exact replica of the whole drive.

Yes Acronis works just fine , I have included it in my winpe3 boot disc ( the free version, that is )

I also included Paragon Virtual Server - fantastic app. - not free tho. http://www.paragon-software.com/business/hdm-server-vs/

Another vote for Acronis, friend called at 9am, his system crashed when the power glitched. No way to get to hard disk, no recovery available. I had made an image with acronis last saturday and it took exactly 15 minutes to restore his C drive from an image I had put on his D. worked. and I was back home by 10.

Commercial imaging apps. don't make any distinction between images made in a 32 or 64 bit environment.

Only windows system image GUI does that


You won't have any trouble using the macrium pebuilder.

The problem here is I have the 64bit version.

So do I. But I'll doing a bit more checking myself now on potential issues.
I've been able to mount my old images and make them ok.

You can image all partitions on the drive though, but it is not a true clone.

Yes, but I had to make sure so I used the Hirens macrium pe to reimage my system (51GB) from a Macrium image made on 23 Jan 11 - it worked fine.
Came back to the present with a Windows image.

Nevertheless, I downloaded WAIK a while ago and will probably try making my own pe - you make it look relatively straightforward.

If you have run off the 32 bit win7 recovery disc, put it in the cd drive, rt click cd drive, copy, rt click HD paste.

My system is 64-bit Windows 7 that presumably creates a 64-bit recovery disk; it seems to me that this is the version I'd need since Macrium files that I have access to are 64-bit as well. Would that be correct?

Well I finally did it. I used DISMGUI from here Mike's Blog to add the Macrium programs to the Windows 7 recovery disk on a USB stick. I used the DISM approach because you don't need the WAIK to run it. DISM is a part of Win 7.

Has anyone been able to restore from a NAS using Macrium Free? Does the LINUX boot CD see the network?

I'm installing a NAS tommorrow and plan on scheduling my Macrium images to it - it would be a fruitless exercise if I couldn't see it in the event of having to perform a restore......

I've not tried a NAS. What I would do is to try and access the NAS with the boot disk before using it for your backups. If you can see it then set up a small test partition and put a few files in it. I set mine up as 100Mb. Then see if you can back it up to the NAS and restore it from the NAS.

I can't help with the dvd error but the reflectpe.exe file is part of the macrium winpe which only comes with the pro version.

I'm not sure but there may be two versions one for x86 and another for x64.
