Hi all,

I hope you can help me with my issue. I have a HP Compaq Pressario CQ61 laptop that came pre-installed with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit on it. Recently I decided to try ubuntu but after a while realized Windows is more my thing. I tried using the recovery DVDs (the ones I made myself after purchasing the laptop) to re-install Windows back on it and after going through all 3 DVDs it asked me to re-boot and then gave me the restoration incomplete error. I have used the disks before and the process worked but for some reason now it fails.

I would like to know what my options are and what can be done because I would really like Windows 7 back. Oh, using a version that is online to re-install and then using my COA sticker for product ID is not really an option because the sticker is faded beyond ability to decipher the characters and in my infinite wisdom I didn't write it down :(.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Thanks for your help greg, diskpart command solved the issue. Windows 7 is back on my laptop.

Glad to hear it Arweena. There's something in the boot sector that's likely blocking these Recovery Disks from running as this is solving that problem regularly.

Since you restored the Factory Image you might want to Clean Up Factory Bloatware
to get better performance from Win7.

That is exactly what I am doing right now ^^.

Hey guys, so I'm having the same problem but I'm not as experienced as the OP. I do not see how to use diskpart if Windows 7 is not working. I'm booting into Ubuntu.

---I'll just create a new post
