This has happen twice so far in the last two weeks.

Yesterday I installed my backup HD to run updated backups using Acronis True Image. I shut down, installed HD, Asus ask me to setup new BIOS (F1 or F2 for setup). I get through BIOS & window loads only to find the system restored has restored to ten days earlier. All data from the last ten days are lost. When trying system restore back I get the "Catastrophic Failure" with Error (0x8000FFFF). All the options are there to restore to ten days earlier.

Have you ever see anything like this before?

Thanks,

Dirty,

A system restore is not a system image restore.

I'm trying to understand what you are trying to restore to where.

Thanks for responding, I hope this makes scents.

I understand what system restore is used for. My problem is, I never opened system restore, but it was doing it on its own. Every now & then when I shut down or restart, system restore would restore back to weeks before. I would try to restore the system back to before the shut down. The restore points were there, but every time I tried to use one I would get the error code "Catastrophic Failure" with Error (0x8000FFFF). The system would act like it never reach those restore point so it could not restore back to them.

I remember there was some windows updates ready to install & maybe try were running & I shut down & that causes the restore, I don't know. What do you think, I do not want to lost anymore data.

Thanks,

1. to your memory entry in your System Specs, would you please add how many GB of ram you have?

2. Run the System File Checker. If it says that there are integrity violations, then run it again.

ttp://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html

Please read that tutorial.

3. download, install and run the free CCleaner (link in my sig).

4. Carry out following:
LIST OF STARTUP PROGRAMS USING CCLEANER

CCleaner | Tasks icon | Startup tab | click on Save to text file button (bottom right side)

Using the PAPER CLIP icon in the top panel of a Message Reply window, attach the .txt file generated by CCleaner.
