System Restore failed to extract a specific exe file I uninstalled

Due to dozens of BSODs, I have tried many times to restore to a time prior to the onset of the BSODs. Months ago, I installed a downloaded free trial app, and soon after uninstalled it.

How can I work around the failure of System Restore to extract a file that I don't want anyway?

And if this is not the proper forum, refer me to an appropriate one, please.

I read the attached .pdf file. It seems that system restore is not capable in handling your problem.

Before installing did you check the free trial App for viruses and malware? Was it clean?

You must have uninstalled the free trial App the proper way. Just in case that you didn't then please reinstall it again and try to uninstall it with Revo Uninstaller that can be downloaded from Download Revo Uninstaller Freeware - Free and Full Download - Uninstall software, remove programs, solve uninstall problems.

Lastly if Revo Uninstaller also does not help then you can spend some time running check disk in elevated mode (http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/139810-sfc-scannow-run-command-prompt-boot.html) and if that doesn't help carrying out a startup repair (http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/681-startup-repair.html)

However taking all this action does not guarantee that the problem shall get resolved. As your system has become highly unstable, the frequent BSODs being the evidence for that, the best course would be to clean reinstall Windows 7. Things shall then be back to normal.

Using the Windows 7 system restore is not a good idea at all . As you have experienced it is very dicey. Please start using images to back up your system and you shall never face such problems. You can learn all about creating and restoring images in the Tutorial Section of Seven Forums.
