OK, I'm sure you all have an answer to this one.

I would like a simple email notification device that sits in the System Tray and notifies me when I receive an email.

It must be configurable to work with IMAP protocol. In this case, MobileMe.

I have all my email addresses forwarded to my Apple MobileMe inbox. I use Thunderbird as my client on Windows. It has a system tray notifier but, Thunderbird must be running for it to work.

I know of things like GMail Notifier but, I need a generic one I can set up for whatever IMAP account I want.

I want it to look like it belongs in the Windows 7 system tray. I would like it to announce an email without Thunderbird running. I want to be able to click on it and have it launch Thunderbird.

Any suggestions?

This machine was given to me when my dad bought a new computer. I keep throwing upgrades at it and it keeps on ticking. Think I've done everything to it that can be done outside a PSU upgrade so I can run an even BETTER GPU.

I can get Pidgin to do the same thing but, I don't have my IM running all the time nor do I want to. A nice stand alone tool like Gmail Notifier is what I'm looking for but not specific to Gmail.

Good morning. I have never used such a thing. I did a search and this one says that it is windows 7 compatible. Good luck to you! :D

Bug, sorry, I hope you don't mind me asking.

Why don't you want Thunderbird to make your notifications? What is the issue with having it run?

I use Outlook and just minimize it to the tray area. Normally it appears thus:
Screenshot_2.jpg and when I have mail it appears like so: Screenshot_3.jpg.

I'm sure you knew all of that. :)

Is the issue that Thunderbird won't minimize to the tray? I don't know as I don't use Thunderbird but I have always been under the impression that all mail apps could be minimized to the tray.

I have a native gmail notifier. And I was looking for days for a proper notifier but couldn't find anything good looking and safe.

TweetDeck has awesome notifications but unfortunately only for social media. Wish they support imap accounts.

Let me know if you find something good.

OK. I found a Thunderbird add-on that does exactly what I want. It's called MinimizeToTray Plus.

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/2831/

The only thing I don't like about it is the icon looks like crap. So, if anyone knows how I can fix the icon, I'm all ears.

This is what I've got:

SystemTrayCapture01.jpg

I'd like to have something that matches the stock Win7 tray icons. But, anything that looks better than the extremely pixelated T-bird icon that is there would be great.

I just tried and this account it refers to is the first email account you want to input, not a website account.

I've just tried POP Peeper and it's possibly the relatively best program ever. Low resource usage, to the point and makes use of Windows-native stuff. The interface's looks and colors are Windows theme-based, the default mail sound is theme-based, you can have either popups or systray balloon tips, it supports POP and IMAP/SSL, it can launch your default mail program and its Compose window, lets you configure how to handle attachments, IMAP's IDLE mode, download only/headers/body/everything, etc etc. Wonderful program!

pop_peeper.png

Milkedl, the reason for wanting a program like this is that some people, like the OP and me, don't want to have to keep their entire email program with all its features and resource usage running the whole time just to get the notifications. A little systray mail checker only needs to log in on the server and check if any of the mails there are new. No address book, no theming, no big interface, no Write feature, just read & leave. Simplicity and reducing overkill is the key to performance.

I Agree

I've been using Pop Peeper for years. Small footprint, active tray icon and voice notifications. Versions are free or cheap. There is no better.
