Did a fresh install, after 5 updates I got this message:

Unsupported hardware

Your PC uses a processor that is designed for the latest version of Windows. Because the processor is not supported together with the Windows version that you are currently using, your system will miss important security updates.

So basically Windows 7 wants me to install Windows 10 on a laptop that was was launched when Windows XP was current?

Hi KNP54,
Weocome to SevenForums!
I'll give @Megahertz07 a shout, pretty awesome at new processors not working with Win7 issues.

Hi Snick,

Did a bit of reading and Microsoft stopped supporting Windows 7 with 7th generation processors and beyond. However Windows 7 is misidentifying my processor as a new processor... the T7200 is a 12 year old processor!

This Intel website might help anyone wishing to help KNP54.

Intel Coreâ„¢2 Duo Processor T7200 (4M Cache, 2.00 GHz, 667 MHz FSB) Product Specifications

Presumably Windows 7 Ultimate 64 worked when you had the old HDD installed, so there might be problem with a missing driver that's needed.

I don't suppose you have a backed up image of the old HDD & the necessary rescue CD or USB drive to be able to use that. This is the advantage of having image back ups, when say the HDD fails, you just install a new HDD or SSD boot with the rescue disc & reinstall the latest image & you are up & running in very short time.

I'm really scratching my head on this one because I'm using Win7 SP1 ultimate x64 on a Dell Inspiron e1405 laptop with a mobile Intel Core 2 Duo T7600 processor (similar to the T7200), and after installing the April 2018 monthly rollup update, I do not get the "unsupported hardware" message when checking for new updates

It's pretty weird, when scanning for updates, sometimes I get the "unsupported hardware" message, sometimes I get no updates available, and I redid the scan again and this time I got 32 important updates including the April 2018 rollup update.
I'm installing the 32 updates right now, I will post again when the updates are finished installing (should be done in a few hours? hehe)

No basically this is a laptop that someone gave to me, it had Windows XP professional on it. I wiped the partition on the HDD and doing a fresh install of Win7 and I'll give it to my neighbor. She will basically only browse internet and write some documents with it, no gaming.

Yes, I'm aware of the processor age, one of my laptops had that processor, not having any issues with M$ updates
Thanks for the link @Ranger4

That feature came along with the optional update KB4012218 which you can read about here:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us...-windows-7-sp1-and-windows-server-2008-r2-sp1
Since KB4012218 contains no security updates/features and it is optional it is probably something your system can live without.
Administrative command prompt, click :orb:, searchbox type cmd, right-click cmd > run as administrator
copy and paste with mouse not ctrl + c

wusa /uninstall /KB:4012218 /quiet /norestart

If KB4012218 is offered to you again you can right-click and hide it so (hopefully) you will never see it again.

"this feature" that is one crippling, shady "feature". I'm truly amazed at how you've found the update related to this issue. Microsoft being the vaguest of vague with the copy-paste update descriptions. Can't wait to hear back from the OP whether this helped.

Also - T9300 here - sadly can't report if I get the same issue, as I don't do any windows updates, and never have any issues :D

Snick

Before entering the command I searched for the KB4012218 in installed updates in the control panel and couldn't find it.
Then I entered the command once with /quiet option omitted and got the message:
"The update KB4012218 is not installed on this computer."

I suspected that since I didn't install any optional updates, except the French language pack and updates related to hardware drivers.

Well I decided to reinstall and disable updates. It was faster than trying to figure which update is displaying the unsupported hardware message! Should I mark this thread as solved even though it's not really a solution?

Not sure why you are getting that error message with such an old CPU.

Here's something you might try - it's a hack that someone developed for new CPUs, so that they will continue to receive Windows 7 updates:

https://github.com/zeffy/kb4012218-19

I haven't tried it myself (haven't needed to), but others report that it does the job.
