This happened a couple weeks ago and I've just been putting up with it, but its getting pretty inconvenient. I'm running an up-to-date copy of Win7 Ultimate.

I was using the Task Manager to stop a few applications and the computer locked up. After rebooting, the Task Manager was featureless. All it shows now are the running apps. Menus and tabs are gone. Rebooting the computer doesn't do any good. I've tried right clicking all over, even down in the task bar. The only way I can close it is by highlighting it in the task bar, then clicking on the red x that appears.

So, what do I have to do to restore Task Manager back to its default mode?

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

I'm a musician and a composer, so this PC is used primarily as a digital audio workstation (DAW), so sound is king. I'm also a photographer, so I also make use of it for image processing. I find the ATI Radion on the MoBo to be perfectly adequate in this respect and the AOC 22" monitor to be respectable. It's about time for an upgrade, though.
Hi Michael,

if yes suggest you run
sfc /scannow

Hi Roy, thanks for the response. Sorry, I guess I'm not following you when you ask "checked the view tab??" What view tab?

I'm running the scan anyway. It says it will take some time. 7% so far.

Hey! You know how the forum loads threads that are similar at the bottom? Well, one sounded like my problem. The solution? Double click on the window frame. So I did. Now everything's back to normal! I knew it would be something easy. So problem solved.
