Actually, I just searched google
Just double click on the empty border, and the window and options will come back

When you get the tabs back, click on the 'Applications' tab. That would look like the normal manager that you were used to in Xp/Vista.

I can't bring up the tabs, when I right click on the border or any other location, nothing happens. Also the items contained in what I bring up are different than the standard items contained in Task Manager as noted below.

It was a good explanation. I just noticed he was right clicking so I set him strait on that part.

This thread has been helpful - unintentionally perhaps! Frustrated by the missingTask Manager (alt-ctrl-del does nothing), I didn't know it is now accessed by rt-clicking the task bar!

The actual shortcut to Task manager itself is

'Ctrl' + 'Shift' + 'Esc'.

You can access the Task Manager by means of Ctrl Alt Delete, however you will need to select Start Task Manager from the menu that appears. For direct access, the key combination is Ctrl Shift Esc.

It seems not all W7 systems are alike. Ctrl-Alt-Del on my computer does not open a menu of any kind. Nothing happens. Ctrl-Shift-Esc does not open the Task Manager, it opens the"Start" menu - same as clicking on the Start button. However, rt-clicking on the taskbar opens a menu that includes "Start Task Manager".
