Taskbar disappears

I already reported it and received a couple of replies. They don't really seem to think it's a problem with too many people and appear to be ignoring it. I emailed the rep again a week or so ago to ask how things are progressing and he hasn't replied this time. I guess it's easier to ignore than to fix it.

Got it back. I just right clicked where the taskbar would be, and changed one of the Properties.

Thanks all

Which under Properties did you change? I just did a fresh install and it already happened to me too. Thanks.:(

What screensaver(s) are you guys running where you see this issue? Are they the default screensavers or third party?

Mine's a 3rd party screen saver. I increased the time to stay on to 2 hrs. so it stays that long without having the taskbar problem. Once the 2 hrs. is up and it tries to sleep or hibernate, I loose the taskbar. But 2 hrs. is a lot better than it was. This, of course, is not a fix just a delay of the incovenience. I'm really kind of aggravated at this point that after spending $150 for an OS that MS just ignores us. That's why they have such a lousy reputation of arrogance.

All I did was change my screensaver and it has never happened again. FYI, I use "Ribbons"

That is odd indeed.

Were you using the default SS (as in one that CAME with Windows), or did you download it?

I have heard reports of some 3rd party screensaver (one that turns flash files into screensavers) that actually calls ShowWindow(SW_HIDE) on the taskbar for some reason but doesn't bother unhiding it. If you are running into this problem try changing your screensaver to one of the default ones and seeing if it stops happening.

I have an ASUS Notebook, and it came with an ASUS Screensavor that also played some music, and that is the only one that it happened with. Once I changed it to MS's "Ribbons," it's never happened again.....Strange.

They must have programmed the SS wrong.

I tried the Unlocking and locking the taskbar to no effect, then I went to the Task Manager and stopped and started the explorer.exe process and the taskbar came back, Its a quick fix but it didn't solve the issue.

I too have this problem but I found another solution "temporary" which is creating a shortcut to the screensaver I use "Digg spy screensaver" to easily activate it whenever the taskbar disappears..

I had this start happening after installing the System 47 screensaver from mewho.com. It looks like it's the fault or the screensaver since the trick of previewing/cancelling restores it. I've changed to a difference screensaver so hopefully it's fixed.

[P.S. display adapter is Nvidia GeForce 9500M GS]

I would disagree that it is the fault of the screensaver because it happens when the screensaver comes on. It didn't happen with XP or Vista, so something in 7 is in conflict 3rd party screensavers. Seems to me that if they can develop a nice OS like 7, they could fix the problem. They just don't seem to care.

This would be a problem with the guys that wrote the screensaver, not Seven... :sarc:

No you are wrong. This IS a problem with Windows 7. The taskbar should be more resilient to this type of issue as it was with all previous versions of windows.

This isn't just happening with one third party screen saver, it's happening with a number of them.

A number of screen savers that ran fine on the previous O/S's. Somethings changed, and surely one day, MS are going to find out about this and fix the 'problem'. Unfortunately, because the probability is that it's easier to make contact with aliens than get technical issues through to Microsoft!, it may be some time before they realise and address the issue.

Yes, I agree. These are all the same screensavers that ran fine with XP & Vista. They haven't changed, the OS changed. MS already has our money, they're in no rush to fix such a minor problem. They have always been a little arrogant that way.

Oh so I am wrong now huh?

Well the real issues is that something changed in MS' coding in the taskbar that is not causing a glitch with the coding of the screensaver. It really is not either parties fault, but the fault is still there. The best idea is to either not use that screensaver, or go back to XP/ Vista.

You might try disabling different things in the taskbar to find the specific area. Try turning off aero too.

Timelord ...I think I have to disagree with your reasoning. This is a third party application, and it's up to the (code)author to make it compatible with the version of Windows 7 you're using.
