lehnerus2000: I dont get the options your showing with the
' Change of color on your window borders , Start menu and taskbar '
and a list of pastel shaded options.
I only get the second smaller 'Window color and appearance ' box
even when I load an Aero theme.
You don't have the Window Color link at the bottom of the Personalization window?

You can click on most items in the preview window (top section) of the Window Color and Appearance dialogue box.
You can also choose them (and other items) from the drop down list.

So you are saying that changing any setting (e.g. Title bar font size) does not work?

Have you tried running System File Checker (mentioned earlier in this thread)?

Open the Command Prompt (Use the "Run as administrator" option in the context menu).
Type:

sfc /scannow

Sxlcartron, excuse me for asking a question a bit off the main one, but I'm confused about the length of the unreadable right-click menu you see. Is Google Chrome open but minimized when you right-click its icon on the taskbar? Or is the program simply pinned to your taskbar? I can't read the menu (of course!), but the number of items (with their icons) is quite different from any menu I can reproduce. Can you fill me in?

Gini, pinned to the taskbar are icons for Firefox and Chrome.
If I right-click either of them in the Taskbar I get a list popping-up
with the heading 'Most Visited' ( in the case of Chrome ) or 'Recent'
( Firefox) : the items in either of these lists are pale lettering against a
grey background and very difficult to read. I am searching ( without success )
for a way to change the lettering to black(say). It does not matter whether
Chrome is open,closed or minimized.

Thanks for answering, sxlcartron! Now I understand why I've never seen a similar menu. It's because I chose not to use the jump list to display recently opened items as soon I as started using Windows 7. You might try disabling this feature and then re-enabling it to see if the white font behavior will correct itself. I think these two links will help if you feel that playing with this setting is worth trying:

Fix: Jump List missing or disappeared permanently in Windows 7
Can't hurt — good luck!

Try this and see if it helps. Go into your Control Panel and click on Fonts. Your screen should look like below. Click on Font Settings and at the next screen click on "Restore Default Font Settings".

In message 4 (with the screenshot of your problem) you say you clicked on the Chrome Icon. If you click on the Start Icon, can you read it? What about if you pin another program to the Taskbar, can you read it when you click on it?

Yes the lettering is in black when I click the Start icon.
Whatever other icon I pin to the Taskbar , if it has a pop-up menu or list, the letters will appear
in white. The background color of the pop-up menu for the Start icon is the same (grey) as the others.
One slight difference I noticed was that the pop-up menus I cannot read have a noticeable black
border whereas the Start one does not. Also, when I mouse over the items in the lists I cannot read,
the color changes to black lettering on a blue background - which I can easily read. Weird!

Do you any 3rd party software that starts when your PC boots (or when you log in)?
If yes, have you tried disabling these items?
