Hi,i went to clean my pc of the usually rubbish that accumulates and in the recycle bin i found this folder called temp1234 and its size is 2.40gb and i darent delete it nor do i know how it got there,it has folders within it labelled boot,dell,program files, sources,tools,users,windows,dslhold.fil,MASTER,setup,only thing i can think it is,is when i upgraded my operating system from windows 7 home to professional,has anyone come across this before and like i said with it being so big i daren't delete it,anyone any ideas ?

Is the date on that the same as the date you upgraded?

If so use the disk cleanup wizard. If you need to keep it the izard will leave it. I suspect it is only the windows old folder

Hi Ken and thanks for your welcome,this file was created 14th July 2009 and as it is a new pc it was made before i bought it,i have just moved it to the desktop for now so i don't accidently delete it......

If you Google temp1234, you will find alot of returns. Just scanning over them, it would appear that it is related to some website like youtube. It would appear that if you didn't delete it, then someone else did. Anyone else with access to your computer?

Obviously it can't just remain in the recycle bin forever, and if you don't know what it is, I would recommend flushing it...unless you need to restore it for some investigative purpose.

POSSIBILITY 1

I think those files may be from Recovery Partitions usually included with new PC's. Since it's already in the Recycle Bin, I'm sure that you can permanently delete them without any errors. However I would reboot and try the Recovery Option from the Dell Logo screen, just to make sure.

POSSIBILITY 2

They may be from your old Windows Installation if you Upgraded . I think you can still safely delete them
This is because Windows is doing just fine without them (It can't use them from the Recycle Bin), ENJOY YOUR EXTRA 2.4GB OF MEMORY!

Same problem with TEMP1234

Hello All: I just found this site after "Googling" Temp1234 in Windows 7 and have the same problem as the person who posted earlier. I followed the offered solutions, but the disk cleanup wizard ignored that directory completely and when I tried to delete it in explorer, I got a message saying a file was in use (even tho the only program open was explorer) and it would not delete. I have 2 directories in that temp file. 1 is labeled "Sources" and the other "Windows" . The sources directory has no duplicate on the system and the windows directory has many (but not all) of the same directories as the main Windows directory. Should it be removed? Can it be removed?

Although I've been around these things long enough to remember getting excited when I got a new 286 with a 42MB hard drive running Windows for Workgroups, I'm stymied by this Windows 7.

Many times I can't activate a link in a website. I learned that if you ask to run as administrator before starting IE, that solves the problem, but I wonder why you can't run as administrator all the time instead of having to do it each time you start IE. And since that option doesn't appear when you right-mouse click the IE icon when the program has been pinned to the start menu or the taskbar, it's necessary to go through the motions of clicking on Start>All Programs and scrolling to it. Seems like MS would have discovered an easier way.

I've had to get rid of some perfectly good hardware (Scanner, Printer) because they are older and they are not compatible with/or there are no drivers for Windows 7.

I've had to upgrade my CorelDraw Suite and Photoshop unless I wanted to run them in the "virtual machine" mode........... whatever the hell that thing is. All because my 8 year desktop running Windows XP died in its sleep. So this new Dell notebook XPS is making me wonder whether I should go back to my Commodore 64.

But I digress........ NASA spent 2.7 Million dollars getting contractors to design a pen that could write in zero gravity. The Russians had the same problem. They solved it for less than a dollar. They used pencils.
