If I believed as you do, then I might agree with your spending plan, but I don't. However, the rules don't permit me to elaborate on why that is so, other than to say that if mankind's survival does depend on leaving Earth and colonizing space, then it is a lost cause. The only thing that I know of, of that kind that might be worthwhile, is mining HE3 on the moon, but I seriously doubt that will come to fruition.

i think when the population gets out of hand we'll start regulating it with taking control of birth rates or even mass genocide, sounds unfortunate but its either that or starvation

also i diddnt to expect to get any argument about mars, there's no rush in going to mars we will get there sooner or later, i just want to see it happen in my life time.

I agree and I was not trying to argue with anyones reasoning. I too would love to see us land on mars or set up a camp for extended periods of time on another surface in this solar system.

I just wanted to give a different perspective on the problems with our current population rate. and even just slowing it down will not eliminate doubling. only a point of equilibrium would work. before we get to a point of non-sustainability.

I agree too that as the population outweighs the resources, massive problems will arise.

In general, space mining is a concept woven with the threads of scientific myth. It is not that I don't believe that valuable minerals don't exist elsewhere, but that the cost of locating, mining and transporting them to Earth will always be prohibitive, if not impossible. The reason that I think that HE3 might be the exception is because it doesn't require vast amounts of it to be of great significance, I think that we may already know where to find it, it doesn't require deep mining to obtain it, and the cost of transporting it here is not out of the question, and having it would be of great benefit to everyone.

I would be less concerned about people wearing Nazi patches and German uniforms there, than I would be about some wearing hammer and cycles. Beyond the HE3, I would not feel comfortable looking up at the moon and seeing ghosts of Stalin and Lenin looking back. The man in the moon would never look the same.

Well the film is off by 2 years. We won't be ready until 2020 at least.

It will take eight more years to get 1965 technology ready to go back to the moon. Amazing! Depressing.

If we are going back for the HE3, we will need much more than the 1965 technology. It will mean having a permanent moon base, and something more than a globe with legs, like the lunar lander for carrying supplies to the moon and mined product back to Earth. I don't see the need for another space race, but 2020 is a very optimistic date.

2020 is the soonest just to set foot on the moon for USA anyway.

Check the date below. Nothing was ever done to start the new program.
If we started now maybe we could have an initial landing in 2020- maybe.

Make the price tag $500 billion now.

They say that they are going explore the polar regions, which apparently has frozen water located there. What they intend to do with that water, I don't know, unless they want water rights, so that they can sell us their water for our moon base.

I doubt that it will be, because they are putting the cart before the horse, so that with the cart full of carrots that he can't eat, the horse won't look where it is going and keep plodding along toward nowhere. With all of the promises, all that we shall ever get are some intriguing pictures of some distant celestial bodies, along with claims for having discovered some new secret of the universe to fire our imaginations, so that we will keep paying for more, but getting less.

I think it is very sad that the US have throttled back their Space program. As a young kid I remember the magnificent Saturn 5 taking men to the moon.
